He and everyone else should be able to smoke all they want. It's not a matter of smoking in YOUR car. The problem is other people on the road don't like getting hit in the face with a lit cigarette. They do cause fires in the south a lot in the summer from stupid people thinking it all goes away when it leaves the car.

Its not about being on our soapboxes its about not littering. Butts do not go away. Maybe we should all start throwing are trash out the window. I have no issues with smokers but if you want to smoke keep the butt in the vehicle with you. I have seen fires started by it and have bin hit in the head while riding by some idiot that threw a butt out the window.

No, WTF were you thinking??? Sounds like you decided to live above your means and then lost everything. Sure it was caused by the other guy smoking, but I can't believe you did not have insurance on a condo, and then rented it out to someone without insurance as well. You bought a new house and 2 new cars??? I'm suprised your lending company allowed you to have the place without insurance...... to be honest, I don't even know how you can own a computer right now. I'm sure the bank took you through the ringer for their money, and I'm suprised the girls did not sue you for renting the property without things done properly. I'm sure you were subletting the place as well.

    Just sucks to be you...sorry

You guys passing judgement on scottied67 need to lighten up. You weren't there and I'm sure there's more to the story. I'm not related to him or anything LOL but I've had bad times from bad decisions. I'd be willing to bet half the people reading his story have done similar bad decisions and been lucky enough to avoid the consequences. Or maybe not and don't have the stones to admit it. Look at the bright side - he did rent the place out at a loss instead of just walking away like so many others. He gets credit for at least trying to make it work. Had the butt not been tossed (or lightning not struck, or a neighbor took a nap with a pan on the stove, and so on) it never would have been a problem.

On the original topic, I switched to electronic smokes over a year ago. Besides being able to breathe better, I am so over the mess and odor. The next worse thing to starting a wildfire by throwing one out the window, is bumping the door frame and having a shower of sparks burning up your clothes and upholstery. Glad to be through with the real ones.

What was always remarkable to me was the smoking areas at the offices I worked at. Usually an awning or better with ashtrays all over. And still butts all over the ground and in the grass. Most smokers are pigs, I don't care what you say.

Well I'll tell ya what I see plenty of piss bottles which is a biohazard, plenty of beer bottles and other crap anywhere I go. People are pigs period!! Has nothing to do with just smokers.

And go figure they blame a multi complex fire on a smoker....... Only in California. Please the tobacco has been fire safe now for what 6 years? In other words when you stop puffing on the smoke it goes out!!!! So tell me again how smokers are causing forest fires again.

I doubt the "fire safe" theory as I have ran over numerous cigs smoldering in the highway for lord only knows how long, seen them ran over by cars/trucks in front of me, and I'm sure you have too. I have 0 problems with smokers, just ask that you guys put them where they belong.

And just to clarify, urine is not a biohazard as it is sterile. But still nasty none the less YUCK !!!!

Wow, I am just astonished at some of the replies on this thread. One guy makes a somewhat embarrassing confession, and we have drivers start lining up to stomp smokers/smoking in general.
I find it interesting because there is harldly a day that goes by that some driver is not pissing and moaning about how rules/regulations/laws are being enforced on them, and how the general public/politicians/lawmakers do not understand what they are enduring to move freight.
Well, what they (the public) see are some speeding trucks, some gators spun off some wheels laying in the roadway (hazard), a smelly truck driver in a rest area, piss bottles thrown every where, etc. From that they conclude that truck drivers are nasty, dangerous drivers, and could care less about the rest of the motoring public (you know, just like many of you drivers lumped all smokers together and added your little pet peeves and experiences to bolster your claim).
And yet some of you are surprised when the public turns on you.

I use to throw my cig butts out the window all the time when I was driving, I guess its just something I picked up from my father. Until one day I was driving to work and I tossed my cig out the window and it came right back in the window and burned a hole in my seat. Thought the whole dang car was on fire lol now I have one of those nifty cup ash tray things. Problem solved. Invest $5 and save yourself a ticket or worse

Got me one of those little cups as well.

As far as cigarettes being "fireproof" or whatever you want to call it, its pretty much a hit and miss. Some go out while others won't. Sometimes I'm driving along and will have one go out in my hand after not taking a drag for a while, other times I set them down in the ash tray while I do something and a couple minutes later its all ash (sucks when you just lit it up too).

Also, as far as guys complaining about having to breath the smoke while were standing outside the truck stop door smoking (you make it sound as if I'm literally farting in your mouth and forcing you to breath it in), hold your breath, or use another entrance, or if it really bothers you then ask management to move the ash trays because 99% of the time there outside the door.... I don't like dealing with stuck up ######## but I have to, and I get over it.

Guys who throw there lit cigs on the ground rather then the ash trays are inconsiderate. If no ash trays are available just knock the cherry off, put it out with your foot, and toss the butt in the trash.

    Smokings bad mmmmmmmkaayyyy
