Your kinda lucky they will hire you even though you do the refresher.
Some of these blasted companys want employment and no gaps

    But good luck!
It s a money racket for the most part.

Man, I am in the same boat and this answers some of the questions I have had. I also had to care for a elder, took a few months off and poof, now worse than rookie stat! I have been looking for 4 months for a local job, and now thinking about OTR, but after this post, it makes me worry about having to go to that place I never thought I would have to drive for. Thanks for sharing.

HAVING to do a refresher course is your way of saying "Baaaaaaaaa"......

I have found companies that will hire without having to do a refresher and I was away from trucking for 17 years. Just tell them to pound sand and move on. The more we as drivers just bend over and take what the companies hand us or the insurance companies dictate, the worse it will be for us.

I found my current job by talking with friends, picking up the phone book, local newspaper and calling.

Found a company with 25 road trucks and he hired me with no issues at all.

If you don't like the work conditions, move on and find some that will work for you.

others can have it work out for them too...

Pride will hire where you are and will mostly likely take you without the recent experience. They'll make you go on an evaluation with another driver for 1-2 weeks, usually 1 week. I've seen quite a few guys in the same boat get hired there.

Its possible. Some companies will make you just ride with a trainer for a bit. Better than $2000-$3000!
