A note to the anti-auto crowd

I pull started a lawn mower once.

I noticed this the first time I drove my auto, it would downshift at 55 into 9th. Compared to my manual that you had to downshift into 9th at 45 when climbing a hill. I suspect that's why my auto would pull hills better.

Apparently , ( I've just asked a mechanic ) you could start it if you're very lucky, the batteries can't be completely flat there needs to be enough power to operate the fuel system but he wouldn't leave it to chance

 

Yeah, I've run my batteries down sitting and had a little 1 ton tow truck come out and pull start me. Not enough power to run the starter (click) but still enough to power the injectors and all that. That requires a lot less.

Dead flat, well, I kept a pair of jumper cables with me. Last truck I drove I had to jumpstart it off my pickup every time I left the house.

 

I will say that's why i love having an apu. That and if i have a battery problem maintenance will just replace all of the batteries instead of just one lol

Than it must have had some juice in the batteries, not enough to start the truck but enough to get computer and other electronics going

 

Most trucks also have a system that if the batteries get too low it kills the power to the truck except for the ECM. So they would have just enough juice to power the ECM so a push start would be able to be performed

I'm reliably told by a scania technician if it goes below about 10 volts it's absolutely impossible, the pumps on the injectors simply won't run

 

That's scania bro. My batteries have gone down to 8 volts on my old Columbia without an apu. It turned the engine over once and it was enough to start it.

Idk anything about scania though. Do they even use the same engines as American trucks?

No they only use their own engines , pretty famous for their v8's. Very tough engines , they still build them like old cats and cummins engines, 2 million no problem, they use their own trannies too, strongest gearbox on the Market but you can have an Allison auto but only up to 420hp

Electrics are 24 volt so that might make a difference
