Last fall my previous employer eliminated my job and because I was in management I have had to wait with Second Career and next month I can start to train for my AZ license.
I live in Niagara Falls and it looks like I will go to MODERN Training School in Hamilton to do my training. Second Career pays mileage.
This trucking forum has been a wealth of information.
Time for AZ training closer

There are two schools in NOTL; TTC and OTDS. Neither of these schools had anyone walk through the doors while I was there and I spent some time at both. One, the manager was working the desk.
At MODERN I was given the tour, talked with people on the first visit and the door from the street had a half dozen walk through in the couple of hours I was there.
Talking with two of the companies that hire from the school and asking about the other two, they don't hire from either one. -
Second Career will pay for the training IF you are on EI. I have spoken with guys who think they will quit their job and get EI to pay for their training...it's not that easy.
I have two brother-in-laws who are truckers, one an O/O and the other is working in the Patch. Kids are grown and gone, wife would rather me be working than sitting at home (me too) and I am not ready to retire. Ya gotta do something and fishing gear costs money.
200 hours of training over 6 weeks and then more training with the company. Talk with anyone I can to answer any questions and believe my I have many.Last edited: Apr 22, 2012

I could have gone to a walk-in clinic in Mississauga for $60.00 but with the price of fuel I went to my own doctor for $105.00 At least going to him they know me and I was out in 30 minutes, signed sealed and delivered.

Two of the other Truck Driving Centers I was in mentioned they had the MTO handbooks for sale when needed.
I already had my booklet for my AZ and when I went into MODERN Training and mentioned I had just picked up my MTO booklet for the C class study, she said there was no need for that. Did I not know the MTO has a website where I can get the study information online? As well there are practice exams on line.

It pays to shop around to ensure you get the most and best information out there. -
How much study is enough? Walked out after writing the tests, successful. I guess that was enough studying. A and C completed and do the air brake through school.

Well the first weeks training is almost over, 2 hours of highway driving this afternoon. - PTI, truck and trailer maintenance, 6 hours driving over the roads.
I'm training with a 2000 International, 10 speed, using a 48' dry van trailer on the road. A 53' in the yard
Next week is yard skills and driving.
The gear box on the 10 speed is so tight it takes some getting use to. Not like my TJ. Downshifting will take some time.
Just take it slow
