We don't need any more nanny laws from our "benevolent" US Government saving us from ourselves. Life involves risks. Sorry folks but it's true. Why don't we just bring back eugenics and breed all the bad stuff out of people and create a master race like they did in Nazi Germany. Seems like what a lot of folks in this country want.:biggrin_25516:

I am more concerned about the drivers who tailgate and weave in and out of traffic that drivers who are obese. I am not fat, but rather then condemning these drivers you may want to try to find a way to help them. It isn't healthy for anyone to be grossly overweight. Our entire society in this country is mostly overweight. I would much rather these people work then be on welfare or drawing unemployment. They have a problem or they would not be so much overweight. Kicking them out of their career is not the answer. I don't really think that they pose any more of a safety hazard to others as someone who is skinny. Their biggest danger is to themselves, not others.

As a Fat-butt myself, I have always worked as hard or harder than anyone I ever worked with in any job I have had, and most of my jobs have been labor intensive and long hours.

People need to think they are better than someone else, and fat people are one of the only acceptable targets left in society. If you want to judge me by my appearance, I don't need to waste time thinking about you.

It is proven that overweight people who get some exercise live longer than thin people who don't get any exercise. And I know a lot of skinnies who can't walk around the block.

I'm not going to jump all over the OP here, but I will add this.

As a heavy person of 5'6" and as much as 270 (lost 20 pounds, and now stuck....), and having been too heavy for half of my 51 years, I look at it as a weakness on my own part, and it is. I don't have thyroid problems....never been on chemo...nor am I going through hormonal imbalances (thank God for THAT!). I eat too #### much. Period.

That said, I share his concern. Not for the ones, such as myself, who carry the weight more easily than others. But rather for the ones huffing and puffing just walking from the truckstop to their rig...the ones leaning on the counter because they're out of breath from that walk. Yes, I'm concerned more for them than of others who may fall into the same category as myself.

But those are the exceptions, not the rule. For many of us, eating fills a significant amount of time that might otherwise be occupied in other pursuits. It's easy to fall into this rut, and I've done it...and it's harder than hell to escape.

So am I concerned? Absolutely. But not in a "nanny state" sort of way. Much more of a personal way.

    BTW....my 5'4", 140-pound uncle died of a massive stroke at age 43.

If the industry/govt. want to tighten up the requirements for truckers, then they need to quit treating drivers like animals. When you pay peanuts you get monkeys, period. Why should I have to jump through hoops in order to get paid less than 70K a year. I've been a correctional officer now for seven years and the state requires a thorough medical evaluation, testing and background investigation before your accepted into the academy, but we are well compensated. We put up with a hostile working environment, stress and an administration looking to burn you down at the drop of a hat, but we are well compensated.
I was in better health after 18 years of driving than just 7 years as a guard. Border line hypertension, bad knees, depression and a rotton attitude. I still have my CDL and currrent medical card but I doubt I could pass a company physical without having to do some kind of sleep study or be put on meds by some quack just so I can slave away for 1/4 of what I'm making now. Sounds crazy.

The mandatory sleep studies will weed out the fatties (yes they will soon be mandatory) so not to worry.
That leaves us with what to do about the SKINNY sweat pants wearing low-lifes that will be left.

Not exactly. This fatty is far, FAR safer now on CPAP then I ever was my first eight years driving a CMV without it.

"Fatties" are not the only ones with sleep apnea, which I'm sure you know already.

And allow me to add respectfully that everyone has something they can improve upon. Weight happens to be a very visible thing. Perhaps your weaknesses are more concealed. Science will develop a test for those as well, so watch your back.
