There's previous threads here on the other extensions. They won't quit until they get their way.

The main reason drivers get tired and fatigued is their circadian rhythm is constantly changed. The EOBR does nothing to fix that problem. The EOBR does nothing to correct the problem of drivers kicked off of customers property when their clock has expired either. One customer takes their time unloading and a driver is held in violation.

Truth be known, wallets are probably being fattened to implement this billion dollar technology.

My main gripe is the government is giving them to Mexican truckers for free while a struggling independent owner operator has to figure out how to pay for one.

This is a sensitive subject and I ask posters to think about what they say politically so we don't have to edit or move the thread.

    SB 1813 Senate vote record

If you compare the names on the recipient list to the voting record, you'll see a definitive pattern.

I wonder how many of those senators own shares of QCOM.

It makes me concerned the House majority leader also has received contribution. My congressman, Devin Nunes (R-CA) isn't on the list, fortunately. I sent him an e-mail anyways to voice my concern.

Years ago, corporations were not allowed to make donations. Now they can.

This company clearly is trying to buy the votes.

    It makes you wonder.

There was something that I received from OOIDA a few days ago about the EOBR requirement being taken out of the bill. I have no doubt that these people will keep pushing and reintroducing the requirement until they get their way. If you want to know why they are pushing it so hard, just follow the money.

the commercial fishing industry has been hit with the same technology by the goverment. They said you do'nt have to put these "black boxes" on your boat but you can't go fishing unless you do. So all of you independent O/O's think the goverment can't make you do anything just hold on because they can and did to me. So after 38 years of owning fishing boats I am jumping from the fat into the fire reinventing myself at 59 trying to survive. sigh

Also check the PAC's of the ATA and Teamster's . Teamster donations of over $2 million to Democrats in 2008 is what got Senator Frank Lautenberg (D ;NJ ) to demand a review of HOS to try to get Teamsters what the courts had denied them .
Now with Republicans in control after 2010 elections ATA is being favored .
OOIDA is losing on the EOBR issue . They'll soon lose on the speed limiter issue also .

It's one of those issues I don't agree with conservatives. I'd rather see both private for-profit companies and unions not be able to make any political contributions.

Of course, we wouldn't have any of these problems if politicians aren't so corrupt.

So the House passed the highway bill in question yesterday. Quick Google search revealed they also passed an amendment to prohibit the money to be used for implementing EOBR mandate. I'd take it that the mandate is still there, but it is delayed for the time being, until somebody approves it to be funded.

The amendment was introduced by Congressman Jeffrey Landry of Louisiana. It is #53 in the following web link. The amendment was passed by voice votes, so I was unable to find which way my congressman voted, unfortunately. I went to Rep. Landry's website thinking I'd shoot him an e-mail to thank him, but it appears he doesn't accept e-mails from people outside of his district.

    http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/L?d112:./temp/~bdagyY8:1[1-55]%28Amendments_For_H.R.5972%29&./temp/~bd7ENp

    On side note....
    - If you got a few minutes, go to the link and see what kind of spending is approved in this "highway" bill. I'm sure many of you already heard how the House members, in heroic act, prevented the student loan interest spike by passing the surface transportation bill.
    - One name stood out reading this, and what was Rep. Paul Broun of Georgia. He seems to be making genuine effort to reduce deficit by cutting back funding for bureaucracies. Unfortunately, most of amendments he introduced were voted down.

Hmm, so you're saying maybe I should accept that sales position for a GPS/EOBR company....
