It's getting worse, hiring standards as well as retainment is going way down.

You guys MAY have bigger issues than your driving pool. According to a fellow I met that his wife is supposedly HR at a Con-way Freight Terminal (I know this makes it a rumor which is why I posted MAY in caps), the Truckload side MAY be in some $$$ trouble. This info was not solicited just put out there to me when I said I was a former Truckload driver. COULD be complete BS but could also be reality. The only inkling I had when at Con-way was twice at Great Dane Trailer shops the initial contact person had to make a call to get approval from their own people before repairs were allowed. Shop guy said reason was Slow Pay. That could simply mean Con-way doesn't pay Great Dane as quickly as Great Dane would like or it could mean that Con-way COULD be not paying timely as per their possible business arrangement. Either way, as a former business owner, it did register as a red flag when two companies that big aren't in sinc.

yes, it is really starting to turn into a high turnover starter company....hiring only students........well, as long as they keep coming, they will keep hiring them.

    ECU51 Thanks this.

I'd say from my short time in trucking that the Sorriness Factor is industry wide. Not in the least reserved just for Con-way. Atleast at Con-way there was the potential to only add air to 4 trailer tires on the vast majority of their trailers. At my current employer, their is always the potential to add air to up to 8 tires. We ARE issued the air hose rig that attatches to the glad hand and Issued a spare tire that we must carry on the back of the tractor. I have deployed 4 spares so far and utilize the air hose frequently as obviously MOST drivers never air up a tire. And I've already just about wore out the brizzles on my first broom as well. I've concluded that staying aggravated over the sorriness of others is just not worth it. It's like a double whammy if you let it eat you up. And it will if you let it.

Yes it will, sometimes dealing with other drivers inability to do their job is really aggravating.
