I love what I am doing. Looking forward to being independent and not a company driver....

But with the games that these consignee's, consigner's and brokers play on schedules....

    How do you stay positive?

Busted butt to drive 9 hours to get to my 8 AM unload. Arrived 2 1/2 hours early and got unloaded right away by 6 AM.

Sat and waited for dispatch to show up and find out my reload was already preloaded and ready for me. Now I sit out of hours.

Unload tonight at 10 PM 3 hours away and sit till morning.....

Drive 7 1/2 hours and sit for 4 hours to unload....

    Repeat....

And I am supposed to be paid mileage.....:biggrin_25510:

For over 31 years i have went to bed knowing that tomorrow was going to be a better day than today has been.

If it isn't a better day than today it will danged sure be a different day then today was because I have never had two days in a row that were EXACTLY alike in my whole life!!

Besides what are they going to do to me ? Shave my head and send me overseas? Been there done that and got the scars to prove it :biggrin_25523:

When you take control of your own operation that stuff will always be there but if trucking is your passion it won't matter. I got to where I hated the grind you're doing... Been there, got the t-shirt. Few things were more aggravating than idiotic mismanagement of my time by dispatch - although to be fair I never saw the big picture operations was juggling. If I'm not staying busy now it's all on me. Once you take control of everything and get in a groove you'll wake with a smile every day. Follow your plan and be patient it'll happen.

What is the worst job you ever had in your life?

For me, it was back when I was a young pup of 19. I had a job as a "brick tender" working for a brick layer. Pretty high tech job... Wheelbarrow, brick tongs and a shovel lol. I had to keep up with 3 guys laying brick. All the while I would be running around mixing mud, stacking bricks or stone. I was always running, literally running just to keep up, and to keep them from screaming at me. Seems like it was always muddy out, making things 10x harder than they needed to be.

I remember one particular hot week in August (100F+) 12 hour day. I got home, and got out of my car. I was so tired, so hot, so sore, and entirely dehydrated. I stood up out of my car and both of my legs (backs of my thighs) cramped up. I mean they grabbed me so hard it pulled me to the floor. I decided to lay there and just take the pain, and just let my legs cramp, as it felt better than to try to stand back up and deal with the rest of my body lol. I finally made it into the house. I didnt eat dinner, I didnt shower. I just grabbed a pillow from my bed and slept on the floor with a bottle of Gatorade. I slept from 7pm till it was time to go to work before the sun came up. Got up, and went and did it again, and again, and again...

All that for $7.00 an hour.

Or, when I got stuck in a deburr shop for 6 months at Boeing. I would grab a box of parts, and stand in front of a grinder for an 8 hour shift. No brains involved, just stand there and deburr one part after another. No radio, no talking to the other workers, no stool or chair, just stand there. They were even total jerks about letting you go to the bathroom. My fingers and my wrists were the only part of me that moved. The best part of the day was when I got done with a box of the parts, I got to move ten feet to grab a new box of part, and then right back to the machine. Hell on earth...

When I get discouraged about trucking. I think back to the way "it used to be", or the way it "could be" for me. Maybe you had a job in your life that was horrible? All I gotta do is think about one of those other horrible jobs I have had in my life.
