Two seperate issues; legal and recreational...
    Legal; don't do it, period....
Recreational; IF IT WAS LEGAL,,, it is safer than alcohol and way safer than ciggerettes. That being said, like alcohol is not allowed in system while driving anything, if weed was legal it wouldn't be allowed in system while driving either. They would have to change the test to test for current use instead of past use.

This is fun, lets keep this thread going...LOL BTW, for the record, I haven't smoked in......hell, don't even remember but, if it were legal...oh fishing would be more fun...LMAO

Have it in your system, you're impaired. Remember you will give up your drivers license. This is all license to drive, even your personal vehicle. If you want to smoke dope buy a good pair of walking shoes. Safer for everyone.

If you take any type of drugs you would do well to find another career. There are more and more companies that are doing pre employment drug testing and some are even doing random drug testing. Even lower level jobs are testing for drugs. It is a major problem for employers. If an accident happens or an employee is injured on the job and drugs are involved it puts the employer in a very vulnerable position for a lawsuit. It is one thing to experiment when you are a kid and dumb. It is quite another as an adult. If you take drugs, and yes, marijuana is considered a drug, then you need to stop immediately. If you are unable to stop on your own, then get help. Drug use is rampant in this country. It alters your perception of reality. Some may argue the virtues of taking marijuana as compared to consuming alcohol, but it does alter your perception of reality and is illegal. Even if it were legal, it would not be allowed in this business. If you are someone who takes drugs then you need to make a decision as to what is important to you, drugs or a career. If you have difficulty making that decision then you have already made it. If you think that you can take drugs and drive you are mistaken. It isn't a matter of IF you will be caught, but WHEN. Any time a CDL holder is involved in an accident they are subject to having a drug test. It is part of the job. It doesn't matter if it is your fault or not. If you have been taking drugs at the time of the accident, you will likely be considered at fault, even if you weren't. You will also lose your job. Your CDL could be suspended and you will lose your career.

There are at least two separate questions under consideration here, and the distinction should be made crystal clear at every point of the discussion: 1. Whether it's sensible for a truck driver to use marijuana, even in his free time, the laws being what they are, and 2. Whether those laws are just in the first place. I don't think anyone can seriously argue with me when I say that the answer to question one is obviously "no."

Question 2 has more room for debate.

I'll skip the first part because we all know that answer. The second part is a little more complicated. I don't think they have a test to tell if pot was smoke an hour ago or days ago. Until that test becomes available then the law must remain as it is. If you could not tell when someone took a drink I wouldn't want that legal either. You've got to have a solid way to check sobriety.

People can say what they want about pot but it is becoming more and more recognized as having a medical use. States are passing laws to allow smoking because the medical field is convincing the law makers that pot may be just be a little better for pain that the narcotics that are being used now. I've seen people that have had chemo treatments and not be able to stop throwing up until they smoked some weed. And the current pills (marinol) just do not work as well so to me the old "Reefer Madness" has no merit and I'm all for people not suffering when they do not need to. HOWEVER, if you hold a CDL the federal government says you can not use marijuana no matter what the states say. It's just that simple.

So, you answers to the questions are simple. NO and NO.

To tell you the truth, I am not so sure that all drugs should be legalized. Making them illegal hasn't kept people from using them. It would save billions of dollars if they were made legal. At least if they were made legal they could be taxed. I agree that some drugs can have medicinal benefits. But some can be very destructive. Meth is one example of very destructive drugs. One reason drugs are not legal is because it is very profitable for them to not be legal.

It is not right for people to suffer when there are drugs that could make life easier for them, such as using marijuana to ease the side effects of cancer medications. On a personal level, I prefer natural remedies rather than taking drugs, whether legal or not. The problem in taking drugs in this business is that it can end your career. Taking drugs while driving a truck can kill or seriously harm others. There are probably as many legal drugs as illegal that can have the same effect. With the current litigation mindset, it can be the kiss of death for any carrier to allow a driver to take drugs. If a driver is involved in an accident and is found to be on any type of drugs the company is likely to find themselves in a lawsuit.

Regardless of what any of us think about some of these drugs, they are illegal at this point in our history. If they were legal we would still not be able to use them and continue driving a commercial vehicle under current laws. We also can't drink and drive. Alcohol consumption is legal, but not while driving a commercial vehicle. You can drink but not near the time when you will be driving.

I can tell u the way it is here, I know it stays in your system for on average 28 days but they can tell from your blood levels when you smoked last , there is a roadside test here to tell if you're still stoned, pass that you're ok ,

Worst case scenario here in FLORIDA, doesn't matter if you're driving commercial OR personal vehicle, if there is a fatality involved you will be tested....now I don't really know if that's "urine" or blood or hair sample, but I know they will test.
