Dhillon Fuel Stop, San Jon, NM, I-40 x356.

The place is a dump but the food is good if you like Indian food. They have a little buffet there. The chicken curry is excellent. I try to stop every time I roll by there.

You will not be impressed by the restrooms though. I guarantee that.

I don't know what it is with truckstops that have some Indian affiliation, but they seem to put no effort into the restrooms whatsoever. Maybe it's a cultural thing, I dunno...The t/s on US301 on the Maryland side of the river from VA comes to mind. It is Sikh-owned, I believe. Same story...bathrooms have been deteriorating for years, and they've never gotten any better.

(Please note this is not an indictment of any one nationality, race, creed, etc. It is merely an observation put forth after over a dozen years of traveling the highways of this great land.)

Used to go right by that one and stop at the truck stop in Deleware on the southbound side. The one one you mentioned used to have potholes big enough to swallow a truck.

Thanks for the warning on those 2 truckstops with Indian food, lol.

I had Indian food one time and I could taste it for 3 days, never again.

Actually, the t/s on 301 in Maryland doesn't have an Indian restaurant, just a typical sit-down place. But it's quite dreary...the curtains haven't been washed since FDR was in office, I suspect. I've eaten breakfast there once or twice in a pinch, though, and it wasn't bad.

There was an Indian motel I use to frequent. One day I stopped and got a room. They were cooking in their living quarters behind the office. The aroma was enough to make anyone hungry. I told them it smelled good and they made me a plate. The Chicken Curry was great. I think that was the only time I had real Indian food.

I have a Beef Curry recipe that is out of this world. I'm not sure where it comes from? You even put sliced bananas in it and they cook down into the gravy. I'm getting hungry typing this! :biggrin_25519:

That tstop was originally owned by the Gotti Family. Back in the good ole days. It was a nice place. The bathrooms haven't really changed since then. Lol

Those bathrooms have been scary for years. i've avoided it for that reason, but the Texico across the highway is closed late at night, and have made the exception
