You will have to go lower down the food chain probably, the what I call better starter company's that hire (Prime,May) usually have a work history policy which pretty much goes back 36 months if you haven't worked at least half that time they won't touch you.

I have a solid 40 year work history but since I have taken time off from the rat race from 2011 till now, I have become a leper to most of these company's so I just work on my house and ride my motorcycle all day instead, life is rough.

Yeah, trying to get something. Got a few irons in the fire. Maverick wont touch me, as well as H.O.Wolding, and several others. Just gonna keep applying.

I think Werner might take me, but, well, after reading the horror stories here, and elsewhere, skittish on applying there.

Really do wish there was incentive to hire unemployed, or something. Making it illegal, well, we have too many laws as it is. Lets not keep piling on...

Pride goeth before the fall. You don't really seem to be in a position where you can be all that picky. These mega carriers... Swift, Werner, Schneider, et. al.... sure, they're probably not the ones you'll want to grow old with... but, it's a way to get your foot in the door. You do your time, get some verifiable experience under your belt, and then get the hell out.

Witching, no pride involved, just a want to not get fully screwed over, well, at least not burned in a way which will remove my future employment chances. I want to get employed quickly, with a bad employment record. I believe I will have to put in a year at where ever I am hired, learn the ropes, stay if its decent, or move to "greener pastures."
Yes, applying to Werner, and Swift, got about a dozen apps out now. And calling Schnieder, though I have read they prefer you have 6 months experience?

Hvy - just keep it legal.

Don't get involved in something that will make you push the envelope and hurt you further where you'll never get on with a "good" company.

And for "the laws" - SOME laws we have to have :) Can't have a world w/out Law&Order. I digress.

    regards

Unfortunatly it's not the companies, it's their #### insurance companies who make these decisions of only hiring with a certain amount of experience. It's very frustrating. :yes2557:

    Truth.

When I see ads requiring this amount or that amount of experience, I tell my wife, but I have to call anyways. 1st thing I ask em is can they bend on the experience?

    It's always...

    NO. Insurance, blah blah blah

Try Craigslist and indeed.com. Or just bite the bullet and sign on with an OTR company like Swift or Schneider. I heard Schneider is a good place to go in you need some recent experience or just being a student. Just think of it this way, it's only a year. It will be over with before you know it. That's what I used to tell myself when I first started out. Conway and ABF also have training. Try ABF first though.

Problem is this: No recent employment. Been unemployed 3-6 months? Forget Schneider, or HOW, or Arnold, or many others.

If you do not have a verifiable work history in the past 3 years, and have not been employed within the last 3-6 months, many trucking firms, even those who hire students, and are considered "bottom feeders" on this forum, will not hire you. It is that simple.

I am trying one, and having my fingers crossed. I'll let you know if it works out. At least they are sending me to orientation, so hopefully, this won't bite me when I get there. . .
