My shoulder hurt the entire last month I did flatbed. It peaked mid Jan when after chaining down and tarping a coil my shoulder felt like it was full of broken glass and my range of motion had dropped to less than 1/2. I spent 3 weeks on light duty at the Phoenix terminal when Swift denied my workers comp claim. I took a month off and saw my own doctor. Long story-short, there is no easy fix for my shoulder. After a total of 2 months off my shoulder felt better than it had since before I started flatbed. So I went to my DM and said I was ready to come back to work but need to transfer to van. I've had a good time running van. My only gripe has been late night pick-up & deliverys and dealing with the PHX PODs and a company truck. I try my best to limit late night runs (on one now) and fixed the PHX POD & company truck issue by leasing my own truck.

blsquek gave you the answer on fueling and taxes, but if you get a free shower with your fuel not tax deductible, but if you fuel at a terminal no shower(unless you take one there) but if you pay for a shower it is tax deductible...i.e fuel yesterday at Sparks terminal was 3.72 I filled up with 105 gals....at the cheapest place in the area loves in fernley it was 3.94 soooo......22 x105= 23.00 - 10 for a shower(about) you stil do better to fuel at terminal, but then the shower is deductible as well (save your receipt)....
-
Somebody mentioned being able to deduct the shower if you paid cash vs plastic. Doesn't matter how you pay for it (the shower) as long as you get a receipt.
Agree 100% concerning fuel and where to buy it. I got 173 gallons at the Memphis terminal the other day, was 27 cents a gallon cheaper than the cheapest truck stop, save over $47.00! This morning I splashed 50 gallons in at the Pilot I stayed at so I could make it to the Columbus terminal tomorrow. Topped of my DEF tank while I was at it. NO WAY am I gonna play Swift's game at the terminals regarding DEF. Since I picked up my truck on May 17th I've fueled at Swift terminals 4 times compared to twice at truck stops. -
I wish you the best Steve and I hope leasing works out well for you. Keep us posted plz

So far I'm very happy with the way it's working. Is it perfect? No, then neither is driving a company truck. Like right now I'm chilling out in a hotel in northern KY. Took a load this morning with an open pickup that does not deliver until Tues the 29th 500 miles away. Since it's in the 90s here I decided to spend another day at the hotel rather than trying to deal with the heat in my truck. If I were still driving a company truck I wouldn't have gotten layover pay since they offered me the load less than 24 hours after I delivered yesterday even though it doesn't deliver until Tuesday.

That's awesome Steve. I'm in northern ky right now and I hear ya on the heat. My ac's broken till I can get through a terminal and get it fixed. I deliver mine ties am in greensburg, in and will be talking to on road right after to see what we can do. Layover pay would be nice. When I was with Carlos he got layover one time after missing an apt and having to wait overnight. Comp drivers get screwed having to sit sometimes, it'd be nice to have some compensation.
-
Funny, I was told O/O DO NOT get layover. Guess I better ask again.
-
We do not get layover, just detention
-
Considering how much detention pay Swift currently owes me I'll be shocked when I actually get any as an O/O.
-
Ron will make sure that you get it. He is good about that
