It does add up quickly.
With the 16l Volvos I have known a free flow exhaust always helped.
A larger air cleaner also helped in Heavy Haul to keep the head from overheating.

Here in Ireland the d12 and d13 are always regarded as a better engine than the 16, fuel economy being the biggest thing but in general the d12 was best!

Just as a matter of interest, you're obviously Canadian and no stranger to weight or ice, have you any 'control issues' with your ishift?

I just hope those of you with the Volvo D16s have more luck with them than my old boss man is currently having with the one I used to run for him.
As for autos, to each their own. Only one I ever ran was an Allison six speed on a tandem dump truck while I was plowing snow. The rough shifting I experienced with the Allison made me a bit worried considering the road conditions. -
An Allison is a true automatic , boxes like the ishift are semi autos, completely different system

Well I've only had it on the road a few days now, but we had over an inch of rain and running on the gravel roads we do they got very muddy. So far it was ok, I had to chew my way up a hill, and I locked up the interaxle, just knocked it down a gear, put my foot to the floor, and between the traction control and i/a locked up it chewed up no problem. I know with the Eaton auto how to 'run' them in the mud/ice when I want to dig/chew, so I never really let the ishift do its own thing. Having let Eaton decide how to run in the mud and it leave me high n dry stuck once, I figured out how to make it work for me. LOL
Its to bad I have to run this truck on these roads, but we can keep it shiny between the rain LOLScania man Thanks this. -
I was actually referring to the Volvo D16 motors, which have been plagued with problems on this side of the puddle.

I've heard that, the d16 on this side is not giving so many problems, I don't have a clue why that is, but that said in my opinion it still isn't as good an engine as the d12 or d13, For one thing the 16 is hard on fuel, here in Ireland at least the d16 just doesn't sell very well just because of that

Had expeirience with volvo motors they are still not cat, though cat is out the business, i do not like motors that volvo makes....

I bought 2 new volvos with d12's back in 2003, the were a little gutless as regards pulling power but I put a million kms on both of them and I had no issues with either of them, also they were quite good on fuel, I would purchase again but still I wouldn't buy a d16
