Did you use lower compression pistons when you converted yours?

C16 pistons/liners and kept your Acert rods? I wanted to look into doing something like that but wasn't sure I wanted to experiment matching parts yet.

not c-16 10r-7172 liner packs same compression ratio as a 625 (i think?) plus the heavyhaul compression ring. same rods as a-cert. also don't and i mean don't reuse headbolts on an a-cert, thats my opinion after what happened to mine.

When mine was being fixed there was an NXS with the same issue but had 4 broken headbolts around #4. They were bottomed out so either someone had reused old bolts or the holes weren't deep enough. I paid $12.49 each for headbolts, you would have to be a cheap SOB to try and save money that way!

I didn't think the difference in compression ratio for a 475/550 vs a 625 was enough to make much of an impact. It's 18:1 vs 18.5:1. The 6NZ is 16:1 and the MBN is 16.6:1

There is no risk in reusing head bolts as long as they are tested and meet the bucket spec.

yeah but to me its a risk if there is any kind of question about them. cheaper to use new than to take a chance. even if tested! been there done that, won't do it again!

I'll keep this in mind if mined takes a dump again. The fact that so many parts are interchangeable opens up engine options for a glider. Buy whichever engine is cheaper (Acert or MBN) since 6NZ's are getting expensive and build it however you want.
