Hi folks, Do straight through pipes have any advantage over muffled/catalytic pipes? Gas mileage/performance? Or is it just having the hotrod type sound? Does a muffler/catalytic pipe have an adverse effect on the jake brake? Thanks for your time on these questions!

when you hit JB with straight veterans are down, they think it is nazi mashine gun))) LOL
really if your engine is stock calibrated - no notisable difference. -
The only difference that you will notice will be your hearing and the way people will look at you (in a not so nice way) when you burp that thin in a truckstop parking lot.

I had been told by a trucker that the mufflers/DPF style pipes hurt the jake brake performance. Also I thought I had read on here, that the Muffler/Dpf hurt fuel mileage.

I will let you know when I have my dpf removed and cgi shut down by diesel spec. I have an 09 cat sdp series motor. Whenever it finishes a cook cycle the motor runs and breathes great I get 40 Psi of boost. Problem is that is a rarity. i usually get 25 or so Psi on the turbo and it feels sluggish. Question - can i still run cali with a truck that has all emission hardware on it but is disabled? Would it pass smoke test or if inspector taps it and its hollow can he do anything?

gokiddogo Thanks this. -
I was going to say... you better keep a good lawyer on retainer cause I believe that your looking at some pretty hefty penalties if your caught operating a commercial vehicle with altered emissions... not that I don't blame you.

Ok so what I gather is a dpf filtered truck gets the same gas mileage as a earlier non dpf (just a muffler) filtered truck?

How many times has anyone got their truck plugged into and checked for their ECM equipment status. Might happen more frequently since old pre emmsion motors had nothing to check for maybe just if you have mufflers. Knock on wood I haven't run into any EPA police yet.
Cowpie1 Thanks this. -
I've never seen a gas burning truck or a gas burner with a dpf. They run on diesel man. Fuel mileage man. Not gas mileage. J hate hearing ppl talm about gas when running a diesel. Might be crazy enough to put gas in it
