less regulation sounds kind of fun. I'm not too sure you fellas would really like to go truck in countries with few regulations though. Like Afghanistan, Mexico, Sudan, i dunno what are some other countries with few regulations ?
but maybe you're right no need for a law, if there was just a couple load boards who would require a posted rate I would be inclined to use it more. I can say that. Personally, I don't mess with the loadboards much. I find it frustrating and inefficient when I do.
There should be a law... rates on load boards

Keep on being "frustrated".....Just more out there for the rest of us.....
-
Even when someone posts a rate I still ask what it is BEFORE I give my rate. This is part of rate negotiation 101 at my orientation. If you have been quoting rates first over the past three months then you have been leaving money on the table. PERIOD.
Just Friday I was shocked again when I had my come back rate set and the broker quoted almost 30% higher. Had I dropped my drawers and shown mine first my driver would have been out almost an $500. -
Why? It is spot market. If you agree on $700 to haul a load what is the difference if they have $500 line haul, $200 FSC vs. $700 line haul?
Quiz time (and my drivers can't answer this) - On a spot market load, why do you not want FSC split out on the load? -
Yep,
Luckily the one time I did that and say the rate first, the broker said, ok, but another load going to approximately the same area, pays more, needless to say, I keep in daily contact with that broker. -
Why do we need to worry about the FSC split anyways?......
Look....It's not rocket science....
Know the lane or lanes....Know what it costs to run the lanes or lanes....
Either the broker/shipper pays you what you want or they don't....
If they do...Great...Run that load like it's yours....
If not....Thank them and move on.....
And again....Who gives a flying Eff what the broker makes as long as you make what you need to make?
Bill.....They have been led to the water and given a straw....But what they do now is on them.....Jfaulk99, RedForeman and BigBadBill Thank this. -
Btw on the FSC....I never tell anyone or ask about/for an FSC.....I tell them my rate.....It's real simple....
-
Carriers should always set the rates and not the brokers or shippers!
IT WOULD BE NICE IF THE CARRIERS SET THE RATES,
BUT THE TRUTH IS THE PARTY PAYING FOR THE FREIGHT TO BE MOVED IS SAYING:
" THIS IS WHAT WE WANT TO PAY TO MOVE THIS LOAD"...
THAT IS ONE REASON THE RATES ARE WHAT THEY ARE....
UNLESS THEY NEED IT MOVED SOONER ,THEN THE RATES WILL REMAIN THE SAME...

It would be a nice starting point but I'm not gonna hold my breath imo brokers are the most agravating partof the dealbut try nobrokerfright.com not to many loads but most have a rate and what they are
-
Just look at this way, we don't go to McDonalds and walk up to the counter and tell them what we will pay for the Big Mac because they will tell you to look at the menu and pay their price for their product they are providing.
We are no different because we are providing the service and we should always set the rate for that service provided.
Too many truck drivers got carrier authority who were great truck drivers, but horrible unexperienced business people who have no clue to knowing their market or the lanes they serve and don't even know what it cost to run their truck per mile or per day in my case.
Getting Carrier Authority should be like getting General Contractors License in most states that involves passing a test that is mostly not about construction practices, but about business practices with most states requiring an audited net worth minimum for different levels of licensing. Trucking needs a simular test on business knowledge and needs a minimum net worth before issueing Broker and Carrier Authority.
It is way too easy to get Carrier and Broker Authority with alot of unqualified people getting both messing it up for those that are qualified.chalupa Thanks this.
