ok ill be 22 next month. I am driving for a local feed mill right now making just 13 an hour with time n half after 40. I basically dont get any ot anymore because he hired another driver. I do everything work in mill haul feed and go get ingredients for the mill. I was only one willing to work 70 hours a week when we did have ot. Never turned down a load that was going to have me stay out late. i have a 401 k n health benifits. I love what i do but since the 2 years i been there the boss changed. i got 2 tires replaced on the hopper bottom the other day bout 400 got yelled at for it but the guy that drives the sprint car blew 2 engines up in a month. so 400 dollars compared to 20-30 grand. it pisses me off he makes a big deal about maintaince on his truck. I called a local out fit that has 3 trucks all w9s with step decks hauling there dumpsters south n up to ny and new england. he said a driver might be quiting n i would be the first guy he calls. he just told me some basic info such as where i would run and stuff. theres health benifits involved and said i would be out 1 or 2 nights a week. I never driving a step deck before and i dont know how the pay is. I have two kids at home and don't wanna be gone all week however 450 a weeks im not making it far in life either. I wanna get into dump trailer but my age is holding me back from almost any carrier. any advice would greatly be appreciated thanks and can't wait to hear replies

If i were you id jump on the chance. Get the experience from it. I recently switched to flatbed at our company since I wanna do heavy haul in the future and i need 2 years of flat bed experience to get my foot in the door.

Go for what you feel is the right decision.

    Agreed.:yes2557:

Plus you're doing it right, prospect for better work while you're working at the lesser job. There's an old saying.... Want a job done right, hire a busy man. Good luck to you.

Kids have been known to survive if one or both parents are gone for short periods of time .

I'm 27 with a wife and two kids. They survive a couple nights without me.

milage, hourly, or percentage, doesnt matter. if the co. pays you what they promised, and delivers what they promised, that is all you can expect. you need to keep track of what you do and be smart enough to figure out your pay stubb. if you are one that beleves trucking is 8 to 5 office with a view for 50,000 a year, you might get disappointed. you dont sound like such a person. i would try talking to the other drivers and see how they felt about the co. some times co. or driver wants to change directions, it doesnt mean either one is wrong it just means they have to part, hopefully a good parting. if you make a 1000 week on the road and spend 950 you havent done well.

Shoot, $13 an hour where I live is #### good money, especially when you're lucky to get a job that breaks $9/hr.
