Will those enrolled in your flatbed course get to stay at a nice bed and breakfast and have steak dinners like during your orientation?? :yes2557:

If that's the case sign me up for training. I'm not pulling a flatbed, that's too much like work, but I'm always game for a vacation with free drinks and steak dinners. :-D

    BigBadBill and SHC Thank this.

So people understand, this will be for new flatbed drivers leasing to our company.

Many of you are making good points and I never expected to be able to train on every situation or teach common sense. The common sense part is what scares me. You tend to find out when a person doesn't have any when it is too late.

Now I do pretty good flatbedding and all my training came from Youtube and looking at loads at the Truck Stop. But can't expect that from anyone but myself. This is going to take a little thought on how to do it right.

I do have an open invite from one of the big carriers to come and see how they do it.

Oh, I'm excited about the changes we are making to orientation. We have to expand it to 2 1/2 days to fit everything in.

But we moved it our of the bed and breakfast to a nice hotel in Bloomington. We have one starting on the 8th (still room for one more driver with some flatbed experience or van driver). That Friday night I got a suite at an Arena football game. Work all day Saturday then out to a nice dinner on Saturday. Back at it on Sunday and then load out Monday morning.

My goal is that no one will do a better orientation than us.

Rollin, you are always invited. We want to have a visiting vet from the company to give it straight. We even send the new drivers out to lunch on Saturday with the vet alone so they can ask any question they may not want to ask around us.

rollin coal, HDFatboy and SHC Thank this.

When's the next one after June 8th?

Bill, if you make sure they have common sense, then 2 days should be plenty enough to give them the basics. Flatbedding is more of a "learn as you go" field and hands on experience is the best way.

Maybe you can book them on easier flatbed loads for a few weeks just to get them the hang of it.

I went online and looked at the JJ Keller stuff as well. It works for "compliance" requirements. About all I can say about that.
