Getting domestic friction, so making a move may happen sooner than I planned. Wanted to ask if having a FAST card would help in your neck of the woods. Already applied for billed on my Ccard and should be available in 3-4 weeks.

I would guess that driving cement truck or water would give steady work in oil fields? Any choice of towns such as Esteven, Lloyd or Red Deer? Best place for camp or reasonable rent?

Looks like I'll have to invest a lot of time out west which means wild hours with lots of overtime. Time to build up lots of capital and Alberta seems to be the place.

I'm 65 and a newbie driver just graduated from trucking school with a CDL aka AZ in Ontario. Can even drive a school bus. Love to stay out west and get Alberta equivalent CDL because Ontario retests their CDL drivers every year after 65: written, drive test and medical.

Would the FAST card make life easier and cross border trips in the oil field?

Thanks cariboo_kid, nitrogen, prairie boy and I'm sure I forgot another mentor

My husband has his fast card and crosses the border all the time from various provinces. From what he says, it sounds like it makes things easier.

The majority of Alberta oilfield jobs don't involve crossing the border so fast is not a big asset, but it's one more thing to have on your resume and certainly doesn't hurt. Some companies do cross though. Small towns around red deer, lloyd etc would likely be the cheapest places to rent.

Water and cement bulk haulers would certainly be good steady work. Good luck!
