Any opinions on a reliable AC/DC compact refrigerator. We actually are wanting one for our pickup camper. The one in it shot craps and a new one that runs on electric and LP cost about $1000. so that is out of the question. Beside to get the old one out we had to tear the dang thing apart to get it out the door. I suppose they installed it before the put the roof on (its a popup) so a exact replacement would not even fit through the door.

Anybody know any thing about Koolatron which is made in Canada, which is preferable to the crap from China.

Are you planning on staying at campgrounds with electricity? Or battery power?

The 12V ones run constantly. A 110V dorm size fridge matched with an inverter only runs maybe ten minutes an hour. Mine needed 150 watts to start the compressor and cruised on 70 watts. Power usage has to be pretty close. I bet a marine battery or two would keep it running a weekend. In a campground you would have an endless power source. Target is a good place for little fridges.

You can't remove the canvas anywhere to get one in? Mine is 18 1/2 inches wide if that'll help you any.

Then again they have coolers now that'll hold ice a good 3-4 days.

12V coolers run when plugged in and cool to about 40 degrees below ambient temp.

12V refrigerators/freezers have a compressor and run as needed to keep the temperature at the setpoint.

I have a portable fridge/freezer I purchased used in 2000. It runs and cools well and I often leave it running over a weekend. You need to know what you are buying. For higher quality, go to the solar power sites or marine sites.

Mines a little bigger than 4 cu. ft. They run about $180 at Target. I had one the same size in a houseboat I use to own... until it sunk, lol. It ran good off the batteries, but then again the engine charged them.

A solar charger is a good idea.
