Congrats ducky. I've been following this thread and was waiting to see how it turned out for you. I'm in school now (today was the midpoint, 3 weeks behind me, 3 weeks to go), and hope to get on with a tanker company. In my area, the "chemical coriddor" between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, there are many tanker companies, and I've been told that many hire students, and that many are hard up for drivers. And there is Schneider that has a terminal about 25 miles from my house, and have been told that this terminal is mostly set up as a tanker terminal.
What did the driving test entail? I just did my second day of rural/ in town driving and I will admit that my shifting needs some improvement.
Best of luck and keep us informed of your progress.![]()

The driving evaluation was identical to what I did on the state exam/road test with the exception of having to back up and hook to a tanker trailer and then after the road trip, backing the tanker trailer into a hole in between two other tankers back at the drop lot (real world vs. closed course with cones). As far as the driving part, I had to do some in town driving and freeway driving.
Good luck to you and take your time researching/choosing the best company that works for you. -
Which terminal are you working out of...Morrow?
Congrats. You could do much worse. Superior is really pushing to hire drivers at the moment. They had a sign up by the gate in High Point saying now hiring OTR drivers. I have never seen that before there. -
I believe I would be working out of the Morrow terminal but parking the truck at the Winder location on home time. That is what I was told by L.H. at the Morrow terminal.
I hope you are right about Superior pushing for drivers. It seems like they are taking forever getting me through the process
The biggest issue I was told was a shortage of trainers. Although not an official employee yet, I was told I would be number three in line waiting on a trainer provided I pass the agility test and DOT physical (which I will). The paperwork to get me in is supposed to be in motion now. -
Parking the truck in Winder would be a good thing IMHO. Lots of loads begin at Stepan there and you would not have to deal with Atlanta traffic every time you come home.

Congratulations!! I hope you do well.
My jobs also running short of tanker trainers, and they seem to get sent where they are needed in the worse way.rubberducky68 Thanks this. -
Well, I just talked to the terminal manager this morning and he said they had another driver commit to training so hopefully this will speed things up. I am third in line!

I must be right behind you. You probably won't be out long with a trainer since you already have driving experience.
