Freebrd, aren't you limited to running 4 states?? Maybe by running OTR you could do a little better. I can understand staying with only a 4-5 state running area if you are constantly moving loads or have direct customers who ship you there, but sitting at the truckstop isn't any different than running OTR since your not going home at night anyways.
Hey everyone! Lets all sell are trucks!

Im still early running under my own authority but my average is above $2.30.... i have yet to haul a load over 32,000 so my fuel mpg is at 7.4 .... I have only tarped 1 load (trying to follow in the footsteps of my idol SHC) and I plan on shoving this freakin lumbar tarp I bought in the shed... i have been loaded everyday, I make my own calls and as soon as im loaded im searching for my next load, even going down the road, and I know its not safe but I see some dudes reading a newspaper so don't judge.
Honestly maybe you should change your approach....I dont complain to the brokers I check on the load if its something I want I listen to their rate, give mine, if they disagree I ask them to take my number and give me a call if something better comes along...I try to be as plesant as I can and its working so far but I have a LOT of room for improvementMotownfire, BigBadBill and RedForeman Thank this. -
i tried the broker thing, didn't make much money. that's why i leased on with a medium sized company that provides all the permits, tolls, fuel tax etc. that i no longer have to worry about. sure, i only averaged $1.45 a mile last year, but i payed less in fuel, paid no tolls, didn't have to futz with IFTA, buy base plate etc. all i had to do was pay heavy use tax ($550), fuel and maintenance. managed to get out of debt, relieve a lot of stress and not worry about sitting. works for me.
SHC, Motownfire and FREEBRD Thank this. -

I'll solve this problem for you easily.......become a broker/driver. Now, wasn't that easy ?

What I'm getting from this thread is that it might be a good idea to set up a plumbing brokerage. You know, find a bunch of cut rate plumbers needing work and start up a plumbing job board. Charge people $100/hr and pay the plumbers $40. then make them wait a few weeks before payout. yah, that's the ticket !! now if I could only rid myself of this pesky conscience I could make some $$$ !

Oh ok. I just remembered you not being setup for all 48. You really should not be having too much trouble with the states you listed. Are you only using 1 load board to find freight??? Are you an approved carrier for Landstar?? That might help, or at least widen your options.
-
Shc, im using its and yes im set up with landstar! The states i have listed you would not think id have any problems.. Off the boards its $1.50-$2.00 anywere u go right now!!!

That's why we're doing better with short(er) runs that seem to be paying much higher cpm, and focusing more on total daily revenue rather than raw cpm.
