I'm on the tail end of the "down the road" part myself: 500mi, six drop run ...ugh. Although, DM did feel bad and kicked me an extra $200! O_O

I think I am being sent a discreet message: You complained about the quality of the work done on your truck at the yard.
Now you can sit and think about it.
I have a feeling I'm going to be sitting here all weekend.
No one reponds to my (polite) phone or QC messages.
When I asked Danny for ANY westbound load, his response was, "I haven't got any westbound freight today. maybe tomorrow."
No westbound freight out of Chicago or the upper midwest?
    Like I said...I think I'm being sent a message.

Hello all, im hoping someone can give me their advice on the alliance program. Such as pros and cons? Is it really as good as it seems? What costs do you have? Any info is GREATLY appreciated. Stay safe!

Alliance is what you make of it. If you can handle the ups and downs of commission life, or self employment, you can do fine with Alliance.
    You control your costs
You kick your own butt out of bed to go to work
You lick your own wounds when you get battered.

Seriously...it's a shared risk environment. You assume some risk of business and you make more money as a result. But that also means you take your lumps when they're dealt out. Just part of being 'your own boss'.
In order to be successful, you must be a self starter, hard worker and have a lot of drive (no pun intended).
If you have a family, small children at home, it's best to think twice about Alliance. You will need to be on the road a lot more, especially your first year.
It's worked very well for some of us, and not so well for others.
I am one of those that has been very successful with Alliance, but I'm also the first to tell you that it isn't for everyone.
I've been a trucker for 40 years, self employed for most of those, have the same wife since Moses crossed the Red Sea (she's use to the truckers life and accepts it) and my youngest kid is 34.
If you're 30, with two or three rug rats under the age of 10 and a good wife...trucking can be a hard life for you all...or at least OTR.
If you have specific questions, just post them.

    Nclewis Thanks this.

Thanks for the helpful insight. I was thinking that because I'm still somewhat young, not married and no kids it would be something worth getting into now so that when the time comes for those other things, ill be well into my career and stable. My only other question is about maintenance and fuel, who covers that? Does Stevens help any at all? I know I would be responsible for repairs I understand that the truck would have a warranty on most things so I'm not AS concerned about that.

On Alliance you are responsible for ALL maintenance costs and all repair costs not covered by warranty. Fuel cost is also your responsibility, although Stevens does get fuel discounts, and if you follow their recommended fuel stops, you get even better discounts. Your fuel cost will also be reduced by fuel surcharge which is paid on all loaded miles. With correct fuel management and good fuel economy-mpg-you control your fuel cost.

Well I can definitely say that my Qualcomm is busticated.
I drove 158 miles today and it did not record one minute on duty, nor one mile traveled.
Of course it doesn't send or receive anything either.
Speaking to the 'expert' in Dallas, was told that as soon as I started moving it should 'straighten it's self out'.
    I responded with..."I'm traveling at 55mph at the moment...should I speed up?"
"No...you're not moving at all. You're still in Champaign, parked."
"No...I'm on I-55, about 40 miles south of Joliet."
"Oh no...you can't be. I'm looking right here at my screen. You're not moving at all."
So it's the old, "the computer says" issue.
So as I see it...I'm driving without it being recorded. Wonder what that will do for my fuel mileage.
I may have to turn in my MPG pin....either that I'll get an award for traveling the greatest distance with the least amount of time.
    the Space Time Continuem Award!
I can hardly wait to see Mother's face when she brings my logs up.
"Oh no, Donna...I can't be compressing...the computer says....!"

Oh yea...in all this mess, came to find out they dispatched me on three loads..but I wasn't responding.
Well I have one to pick up in the morning, heading for Merced.
Won't that drive them nuts? I'll be half way to Cheyenne and they'll think I'm still in Champaign!
