Debate'n on a new set up fo rmy truck, all this CB talk has given me the wants, Probably stick with the trust 29 or 25 LTD but may break down & get something a bigger, Galaxy, Connex, General Lee/Grant, mite be nice to have some extra freqs to use.
Think'n a good Wilson 2000 & (fill in blank) coax.
Of course the Cobras are bomb proof reliable, but which "bigger" radio can compete with the trusted rep that Cobra has, simple to use & uncluttered features, quality sound & modulation ??
Which Coax would you recomend for the Wilson & why??
Thanks advance gents.SS
A new set up....maybe.

Coax is a no brainer ..... RG8X at CB and useing under 50 foot runs there is little to gain with any " better " coax.
As for CB I'm not shure what your looking to gain .... more range get a linear .... yes I know it's illegal ...
as for " channels " there are 40 ..... but if you want to go on illegal frequencies fine but stay off of 28.000 mhz and above and few will care .... -
Belden has always been known for quality cable. Amphenol has been known as a quality end for cables. Some truck stops/cb shops carry pre made belden rg8x coax with amphenol ends.
The Galaxy 33 and 44 are both fairly simple and have 3yr warranties. Stryker 447 as well has been a fairly reliable unit and simple to operate. Whomever you choose to buy from they should walk you through the functions of the radio and what they do. Once you've had that you should be set. -
Always heard that 16 feet of coax is the golden rule, why I have no idea but dont seem like coax length would make a dimes worth of difference...but is ther any truth to it & if so why ?

Hey Southern Son,
Was in your situation a few months ago. Had a connex 3300 with a Texas Star 250 'bout 20 years ago til someone thought they needed it more than I did.
..
So, a few months ago, bought a connex 4300/300. Love it, but got the bug for SSB, so I got a RCI 2970N2. The RCI rec's and gets out much better than the Connex. If I had to do it over again, would get a 2970 (not N2 model) with a TS 500 or so.
Just my opinion..............marmonman Thanks this. -
Thanks for the input, always good to hear whos use'n what. I tried a 2950 yeras ago & it was way to technical for me, also had a Galaxy 88 back in the early 90s, great talk'n machime when it wasn't tore up, constantly voltage regulators burnt out or jump'n freq.

MYTH ....
cutting coax does nothing but hide a antenna problem ....
One thing that can help is to coil the coax at the base of the antenna it acts like a crude BALUM
At the house I have 6 antennas right now ..... NO COAX was cut to match any of them ...
As for SSB I run a GRANT LT on CB ..... and the FT-840 on 10 meters ....

On that note, I created a real choke this week. I'll take pictures later. I took PVC pipe, notched it to hold the cable in the ends, wound the cable around it in a six foot length. I then inserted the assembly into a slightly larger PVC pipe. I drilled holes into two end caps, attached connectors, soldered the ends of the wire into the connectors and put the caps on with a little sealant. Took a little work, but it works great.

Yes pictures would be nice.
I would not buy a export radio if all I was going to do was use the legal CB band. Cobra or Uniden would be my choice........and most likely a small linear.rollingradios Thanks this. -
In may area, the extra frequencies of the ten meter radios are pretty much useless. I have tried listening to see if anyone was using them and nothing but silence or some beep, beep beep stuff.
I am looking to swap out my stuff for a regular CB with sideband capabilities and add a linear behind it.
