I am currently getting my AZ and had some questions for more experienced drivers. I am 21 years old and i am looking to have a career driving truck. I have already been to 48 states in a truck with my two grandfathers (one worked for the american division of challenger till it closed, ms carriers, and k&k trucking and the other was a o/o and drove for laidlaw and td smith). I have a long term relationship with my g/f and we live in london ontario right now. She is wants to go with me so my question is, is there any co's willing to hire someone fresh out of school for long term hauling( wiling to be out on the road for as long as they need) and would let me bring my g/f with me( so no teams ). Also would it be better to buy a truck and start as a o/o or start out as a company driver and work and get exp then get my own truck. I am not picky about wages as i understand i need to focus on getting on the road and getting exp before i can pick and choose where i want to spend my entire career. I am willing to move across Canada east or west if need to so if you guys can give me some company names that meet these requests in Canada this future driver would really appreciate it

I've only got a year under my belt so I don't consider my self experienced in the least, but from what I've learned so far you'd be best starting out as a company driver doing local work so you can get your skills built up and come home to your girl at night. I'd be surprised if any carrier would let you take a passenger OTR

I was wondering if it the same as bringing a kid which i see a lot, I was one of them for a while, i'm not sure if there was a diff and if I had my own truck would they be aloud t say I couldn't. I would also love to have a job were i was home every night but arn't those jobs a lot harder to get fresh out of school?

Your Grandpa Ed is by far one of the BEST truck drivers I have ever met in my life.

I do know what I'm talking about. Your Grandpa used to drive for me at one time. :)

Why wouldn't the guy be able to take his girlfriend with him in the truck OTR?????
I personaly do not know of a company that would not allow this and I certainly would not work for a company that didn't. It is the start of the school summer holiday now and each one of my teenage kids will be doing a road trip with me.
Some companies insist that you sign a disclaimer for insurance purposes when taking a passenger with you in the truck and the passengers name needs to be on the ACE manifest when you cross into the States of course.

if I had my own truck would they be aloud t say I couldn't If running under their insurance they can tell you who can and cannot be a rider in the truck.
