Polishing.

kw9's, whenever I want to post a pic from my droid I'll send the pic to my email then fire up the laptop. Of course if you don't have a laptop until you get back home that does you no good posting up pics right now.

Granted, I've used this on bikes and cars - less of a "grand scale" than tanks and wheels.

The wool bonnet works well. "Restoring" a finish that hasn't been maintained for awhile, is obviously a lot different than "maintaining one" that you stay on top of.

I use an aircraft sealant (ReJex) on my bike stuff, and on certain car stuff. Can't really attest how well it works on aluminum - and I don't do chrome on the bike - all the "shiny stuff" is show polished SS (polished by yours truly). SS is a lot easier to maintain, than chrome or aluminum.

For most standard grade wool bonnets and the proper polish you can keep the shine show room shiny, it all depends on what speed the buffer is, diameter of the wool bonnet and polish used. I myself used a non marketed Aluminum polish that works better than 99% of all the regular polishes, after seeing how well it worked I stopped trying to find the latest and greatest polish.

Being the type that built my own Harley's I kept with aluminum parts and polished them in house, not much into chrome on a scooter but polished my aluminum.

 

I do most of my own work, I did have my wheels and grill done at Danny's in Phoenix, but I'll maintain them myself. I'm guessing in about the next year or so, I'll get my tanks repainted.

 

I can't even find the will to maintain the shine anymore. Danny's was the last one to shine my aluminum up three years ago. Still don't look to bad when its clean, but it is time to get it all done again.

 

'95 Peterbuilt, company owned, never been washed since the day this cat bought it. I am wanting to polish the aluminum on it but it is very pitted and needs sanding. And this POS is filthy. I have been scrubbing and pressure washing for 3 days now and just figured out i had a red truck. Thought it was brown for the last 3 weeks. I tried polishing one of the tanks with mothers aluminum polish and a buffing pad.....not too good. From what I have read, I need a good wool cloth, some good polish, and a high speed polisher. How many rpm's this thing need to turn?

 

I use neverdull on my bike, it polishes all metal, removes grime and even rust. I've used to for years on my bike and it doesnt damage or discolor the chrome or the paint.
