Welll, got my CDL permit today, then to my surprise my instructor at DDA gave us the rest of the day off, so me and a buddy from school took the opportunity to go by Maverick to talk to one of the recruiters (since for some reason they don't come to our school...supposedly there was some sort of fallout between their recruiters and the leadership of our school). Anyway, talked t Adam and got lots of information. Have to call him back in about a month to get the ball rolling for my orientation date (since we don't graduate until 24 August), but I think I can say without reservation that I am committed to Maverick. My work history is excellent (the military is the only job I've held as an adult) and I don't have a criminal or traffic record. I like the way they do things, and with my military background it seems I will fit right in. I'll keep y'all posted, and keep posting!

I have been reading around for about a month or so and have seen answers to my questions but I was just wanting to know if anyone has got hired on resonantly the could help. What do they make you do on the physical test? And on MT Maverick do they still let you use two tarps to help you get up? How tall is the step that they have you step on and how long do you do it for? What other things do they have you do? Thanks for all the help.

The physical is tough but not impossible. You will get your BP checked first. Then you get checked out by a physical therapy doc for range of motion and joint noise. At this time you will give your medical life history....DON'T LIE! If you have had any surgery or are currently seeing a doctor or taking ANY meds....get a release to work from your doctor. Next is the wizz quiz. Then various lifting requirements and the step test.
The step test is about 8" high and you go: one up, two up, one down, two down...repeat. That is done to a brisk beat (2:1) for two minutes, afterword your pulse is taken again.
Lastly, you have to lift a box onto the trailer, climb onto the trailer deck and climb down, drag a simulated tarp on the floor, get in and out of a truck correctly and scale Mt. Maverick.
Mt. Maverick is a wooden box on a trailer that is about 5' 5". There is a tarp on the deck at the front of the box that you can use to boost yourself up. It's not that hard...but if you can't do it then you will have some trouble eventually with an actual load.eagels, sewerman and Flatbedder 1966 Thank this. -

I didn't get home until Saturday morning last week after spending a lovely (he says with extreme sarcasm) at Gerdau in Jackson, TN. I had to leave Sunday morning so I wasn't able to get a 34 hr restart. I made it to Salinas, Kansas by 2000 Sunday night then after unloading Monday morning headed to Exl Tubing in N. Kansas City. The W/A said it had to be tarped but the load sheet I was given at Exl said NO TARP in big red letters. That went to Springer, OK. I reminded my FM I was running on my recap. My next load was a pre-loaded, pre-tarped, albeit only pinned down at the corners, but it wasn't secured so the straps go over the tarps , lumber load at Home Depot in Grand Prairie, TX., going to Cabot, AR. The directions to Home Depot, Grand Prairie are incomplete and constantly changing because of road construction on 161. I made it back to the yard Tuesday night but it was too late to go home so I showered and slept at the yard. I delivered Cabot yesterday morning and my FM told me to come on in and go home. She put me off until Monday afternoon which is fine by me. The trailer I picked up in Grand Prairie is pretty much junk so I had several write ups on it they can take care of over the weekend. My wife is having surgery Monday morning to have some skin cancer removed and it's in Little Rock so I can run over and get my TWIC card.

I made it home today around 1400 est....had 2,440 paid miles for the week.
My week started with my delivery to Strongsville Ohio on Saturday and then on Monday I went up to Cuyahoga Heights Oh to pick up slinkies going to Dickson Tn...Sumiden Wire.
I delivered there and got loaded there with my load that delivered to the job site in Downtown Chicago. Glad I do not have to do that very often...lol
From there I got a load of sheet steel picking up at the port of indiana going to Newton Nc.
I delivered that load and got a load to pick up at Gerdau in Charlotte. I ran out of hours on the way out of there and made it up to Brentiles in Mt Airy for the night. Called into extended services and got my name put on the safe list.
Left out at 0540 this morning.
I will be heading out to Addison Il on Sunday. I called and spoke to the receiver and they said I could park in front of their gate and that it was a safe area. That way I will not have to deal with Chicago traffic on Monday morning and I will have a full clock to work with.
On a special side note. I was able to meet up with Sewerman for about an hour! Nice treat!
Have a great week! God Bless!
