1/4 inch or 3/8 bolt can not be tightened so much that it can not be loosened with a socket and box wrench.

Cheap hardware these days will just stretch and snap before being to tight to undo.It would have to be grade 8 aircraft quality to be too tight to loosen without breaking it when tightened that much.

my first trainer kept no tools in his truck and had paid off his lease and bought the truck outright. God protects fools and children. I replaced a headlight first night after he told me to run on 54 in KS with just high beams. Then i could tell the fuel filters were plugged he says keep running I says I can change them in 15 minutes they are screw on sigh

4 hours later and a $597 road call we were running again. Next day i called for a new trainer

I stopped for the night and noticed one mudflap is missing 1/3 of the side and the other ripped completely off! They both appeared to be in good condition when I picked the trailer up, were both on when I fueled and scaled the load. And the only time I backed was to put it in the spot I'm in now. Lucky I got a spare today at the terminal and I have the tools to replace them. I just can't.figure out how it happened.

from being in the trash business and running the landfills i never get in a truck with out a good sized socket and wrench set and my handy dandy tire plug kit.. company policy is no road calls ever unless its something serious and even then its one of our 2 service trucks which are usually 4 hrs away so it better be a good reason if u need one. mind you we have 40+ trucks. we dont even buy tires on the road if we get a blow out we gotta limp to a tire shop and have them single it out. pulling a live floor isnt for steering wheel holders thats for sure

I've never torn a mud flap off. Then you have'nt drove a dump truck very long. I drove a Transfer that had a remote air switch that lifted the flaps up for those special occasions.

Just a thought.... they may be hung too close to the rear wheels and if they're the rubber kind might be getting sucked up on and over the spinning tires. I see this alot on vocational type trucks. The answer? Replace em with the stiffer plastic types that don't flop around and get caught so easy.

    NSBGearjammer Thanks this.

I had to replace a mudflap on a rental trailer after a blowout. I couldn't find the proper hardware in the truckstop to mount it so I used pipe clamps through the mounting holes on the flap and tightened them around the mounting arm. #### thing stayed put until I could drop that POS trailer off and get my regular one.

The same trailer ate another mudflap 2 days later. This time I called it in to breakdown. I wasn't buying another one and I know I hadn't caused it. The wingfoot Guy said those soft rubber mudflaps are junk and put one of the harder plastic ones on. Yesterday, I saw a USXpress trailer with the same type ripped. The driver said it was new when he picked up that morning

Is there a metal backing bar on the bolts, or just the bolts and maybe washers?

I've gone as far as resorting to breaking up a couple of wire hangars to mount disobedient mudflaps.
