One thing Swift has begun is running a training program on basic upkeep and repair for its new drivers. Its a shame people don't know how to replace a headlight bulb or mount a mudflap
I had to refuse a load today. Mudflap was missing on trailer...

At the number of swift trucks, if every driver pays "shop cost/fees" to change one bulb, each month. That would probably add up to the cost of a new truck in a year or two!
I fix anything I can to save the company money.

Just a little note here about mudflaps. This morning when I woke up at the TA in Genoa Tx there was a bob-tail sitting beside me. The driver was working on something at the back of his truck. As I got out I noticed that he was trying to hang a new mudflap on one of the "L" shaped. spring loaded hangers. As I walked around the front of my truck I saw him prying at the hanger with a large screwdriver and his hand slipped. He immediately grabbed at his face around his left eye. "Oh crap" was my thought and I hurried to his side. Big bloody cut on the side of his nose and a gash right under his eyeball. Thankfully no penetration.
Anyways, we got the flap pretty much in place. The bleeding quit but it was swelling up pretty good. I think I got him convinced to go back down to Victoria and go get checked out at the emergency clinic at the hospital. Dirty screwdriver and cuts around the eye.... recipe for infection.
He was doing this himself because the shop there was busy and only 1 mechanic. If you're gonna do stuff please make sure you got the right tools and some idea of what you're doing. Sometimes it is better to wait.Everett, 48Packard, Hammer166 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Wow! I hope you took his tools away from him and told him to put his helmet and bite guard back on.
Almost ending your career and depth perception in one fell swoop. On a mudflap(shakes head). I don't want this to turn into another "people are stupid and getting stupider thread, BUT. (They are.) As a side note, wife said my 6 year old pointed out to her "Lefty loosy, Righty tighty Momma", as she was screwing a picture hanger in the wall. My GIRL! HAHALast edited: Jun 18, 2012

You and your brother are different generations? Are you originally from West Virginia? How many teeth do you have, in your head, not in the glass beside your bed?
-
um no upper teeth, but we was trucking with cab overs and single axel tractors and we all drove truck, sorry for the confusion
-
And the number of trucks screwed up by drivers trying to "fix" things, they have no idea how to do, would pay for 50 brand new ones, in a year. Which is why Penske and Ryder both have strict policies, Drivers turn steering wheels, Mechanics turn wrenches.
-
LOL
I started with a twin screw, kinda. Belts from the front drives to the rear drives, between the tires. -
so you drove a Caterpillar on the road lmao
