I do so enjoy the Internet.

Nitrogen, let me get this straight. You are going to turn a guy in to the RCMP because he is ignoring an Industry Recommended Practice, is not driving and is not breaking any law?

Right. Please get back to me on how that works out for you. Have you ever tried this before, or are you just grandstanding here for the newbies?

I would run his azzz off for conduct unbecoming, but that's just me. But I HAVE read our company's acceptable conduct policy and know the rules. And we are 0.024 btw which is quite a bit stricter than industry norms, but I would be WAY careful about being sued if I had no unbeatable grounds to suggest someone was out of bounds. Even in Alberta you can suffer serious consequences for casting an unreasonable slur on someone's employment prospects...

But this is the Internet and we are all heroes.

Enough of the drunk talks! too many things said about it already. lessons learnt. Lets move on on to other pressing issues like Jobs. who is hiring, who is not?

Pretty skinny right now, its still quite wet so not too many hours and far too many of us are hanging out in the shop exchanging gossip.

There is some discussion about a lull.

Brought on by horrible gas prices, fairly horrible oil prices plus some re-evaluation of enhanced recovery techniques.

i.e.: Its all costing a bit more than forecast, and (surprise, surprise) its all delivering a bit less than us service companies promised it would.

So we maybe have a bit of a lull, or maybe not. Hard to say at this point, the weather is the overriding factor and the weather currently mostly sucks.

Very wet out there indeed. Those of us who don't stop for sloppy roads are having some real challenges in the mud. Some young guys are getting stuck almost daily from what I hear. I've been lucky so far but just barely making it out of some leases.

Being new here in Alberta, I wondered if all this rain was normal. Since I have been here, it has rained every day.

No, they just arranged all the rain to make me question the wisdom of running with no chains! ATC is a very helpful addition I've discovered. :)

It seems to be harder each year to decide what is 'normal'.

If you go back aways, I would have expected it to be drier and busier by now, but is that 'normal', or is the current slop 'normal'?

Don't know any more. But would certainly be a bunch happier if it dried out some so we could get rolling. You don't get to haul a heavy coil unit over this mess and we pretty much follow the coil units around. For some reason 'they' get grumpy when you tear up 'their' roads. :)

I think I may not have been totally clear. what I was trying to get across is that IRP is considerably more strict than the law. failing the IRP can get you banned from an oil company or just flat out fired. as far as calling the RCMP, I was referring to a "former"(very heavy drinking) co-worker who informed me he had shutdown the bar less than 6 hours before he was to go on duty driving. as far as being over IRP levels that is for the oil company and the emmployer to deal with. this person was supposed to take the wheel of a 90,000lb tractor trailer. the thought of him possibly killing one of your family members scares the crap out of me, doubly so when some lawyer asks me why I didn't do anything to stop him after I knew that he couldn't possibly be sober.
I don't want to come across as some sort of "hero" but as a supervisor I take seriously my responsibility to my boss, and to society to bring everyone home with all their limbs still attached. having driven for 25 years, and several years as a volunteer firefighter, I have seen enough preventable accidents that I'm ok if I never see another.

Wow, I didn't know I would cause such a stir. Wasn't my intention. Just wanted to give a heads up to green hands that green hand school is for learning and not partying.

    Hi guys

I am new to the forum and have been reading all the posts about all things going on in the oil patch - very informative with alot of great information from knowledgeable people in the industry..... Thank you all

I am from Ontario and looking to relocate to earn more money( not much in Ontario for good driving jobs anymore) I have my DZ license and oilfield tickets. Have been looking for jobs and also looking at many oilfield companies websites regarding jobs that will give me a chance too get my AZ license. Have heard of good things about Trican and understand that they will help get your upgraded license( seems more opportunities for AZ then DZ jobs). How much can a newbie expect in terms of salary etc with companies like this? What jobs can give you the most amount of salary( cementing, coiled tubing , fracing etc). Any and all information would be greatly appreciated... Once again awsome information on this forum..... Thanks
