Its definetly a Tuff job to have when you have a family. It takes a toll on not only the driver but the family left at home. I've been with the same woman for 12 years, and my relationship came to an end last week. I gave up my career as an Air Traffic Controller 8 years ago so I could help her run a landscape company, and now I am being asked to do the same with trucking, and I'm not gonna do it. I love this job, yes it definitely does get lonely out here. I try to keep in touch with several other drivers to help pass the time. I think its very important to have some kind of network out here to keep your sanity.

Sounds like OTR trucking may not be for you and that's ok,we're all not cut out for trucking. Why don't you see about finding a local driving job or a non driving job. What you're missing at home is'nt worth the low pay you're receiving,it just is'nt.

I don't think anyone with a heart would make fun of you. I would suggest a little trick that I will be doing starting monday when I head out to Springfield. I downloaded Skype on mine and hers iPhone so that we can video chat with each other daily. We have only been married for 2 months now and I'm sure it will be tough at first but fortunatelyI have the perfect wife. I hope it gets easier my friend.

Local work isn't easier..you work 12 hrs a day and when you get home you got just enough time to wash ur arse and eat...i did both and now im going back to prime...im married and barely home as a local driver..mine as well go on the road and maximize my potential earnings...just my 2 cents

One of the things we humans do the worst is communicate. Now that you are relying on voice communication, you can start thinking about the larger aspect of your talks with others. Pay attention to their tone and inflection, and try to use all of the sounds to figure out how they feel, what they are doing, or where they are emotionally. There are millions of clues in each conversation if you listen for it. Work on the art of communicating and not only will you get alot more out of your discussions with loved ones, but you will become a better man.

Good update....
We are both transitioning to it very good. Some good days and some bad more good now though. We still try to do everything together to a certain extent. But having my bluetooth glued to my ear and having her phone glued to hers helps. Not many places to skype but we do send pictures throughout the day of stuff we do. -
It does get better with time. The first few months are the hardest.
