Thanks for the info on PTL-I was thinking about them and now I won't. I also don't really prefer mega-companies as they seem to treat you like crap.

I worked for PTL for over a year and a half. At first, they were great. Lots of miles, nice trucks, friendly people. However, after a couple of months, the cracks started showing. My dispatcher (Greg Holt) was rude and cared little about me or my money. He would take the weekends off so if I had a load that delivered after 5pm on Friday, I sat the entire weekend. When I tried to change dispatchers, I was told I couldn't because my dispatcher was assigned to the area I lived in. The trailers were awful with lots of rapairs needed and almost every week a driver was being fired because of dot violations (and more than once, I heard that he or she had previously requested the repairs and were denied). This company does alot of micro management and does not care about the hours of service rules. Once, after driving 36 (!!) hours, I pulled the truck over to sleep and when I woke, I had over 10 voicemails on my phone from my boss about how I had missed a delivery. The voicemails were rude and he referred to me as a 'dispicable excuse for a driver' more than once. When I called him to remind him that I was not late since the delivery was two hours away due to different time zones, his only response was "Oh." I recieved no apology and no explanation as to why he reacted the way he did.
The final straw came when I was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection. It was on a Thursday and the doctor told me to take the weekend off and go back to work on Monday. I was not dispatched on a load yet and, knowing Greg, I wouldn't get one for the weekend sdo I didn't think it would be a big deal. When I told them what the doctor said and faxed in my paperwork, I was instructed to clean out my truck and go home. I was 7 hours from home, in the middle of February and all they offered was a greyhound ticket. I LIVED on my truck. I only went home every other month and after my dedicated service and not delivering a single load late this was the treatment I was getting? I was done.
I will never work for PTL again. They called me a year ago and offered me a raise to come back but I refused. Don't work for this company. I still have a few friends there that hate it as well.mje Thanks this. -
I agree,maybe and probably,you don't belong on the road!mje Thanks this.

That's how most mega companies operate. Never ever think a company cares about you. Trucking or outside trucking. Just find a smaller company and stick with them-in the long run you willl be better off.RALPHMANBEARPONY and mje Thank this.

Every company I've considered to work for has more negative than positive,IS THEIR ANY GOOD COMPANIES OUT THERE? Boyfriend and I want to run teams. Any suggestions? My driving record is perfect but my average length on a job is a yr. The boyfriend has a dui from 2001.

The way the economy is going, you are going to have to get used to rough working conditions and poor pay. Just put in applications for both of you and see what happens. Good luck on your search.

With the DUI being that old...The biggest part is what is the conviction date & completion date of any probationb & such also.
I do work for PTL & am very happy with them. I am on the dedicated side hauling for my hoemtown to Nebraska & South Dakota... My pay is pretty good too.
I do know that PTL does some team(Not too many are here though). From what I heard they(Teams) ge the better loads & the longer miles also. That way the teams get the D&H's & also heard they get the chance(if wanted to go to Canada),also heard they get the option of heading up torwards Washington State & such.
With PTL you have the option of NO North East & No New York City(Which is one thing I did check off... I have done my fair share of Chicago,New York City,& The entire north friggen East... I hate it! But you do get paid extra with PTL.
Also the odds of getting one of the new trucks is real good being a team.
The new ones(Which they got about 300 in the last 9 moths or so). Are International Pro Star+'s
The ride is decent & the best part for me is how quiet the ride is... They seal as tight as a new car. when you are parked also the apu is very quiet as well. I would still rather drive a Volvo with the ride & ease of turning radius. But not all like it.
I have never been one of those who like the big brick in the wind Pets, or Freight Classics.

Like I said I am happy with them & I also had a medical incident out on the road. And when I was cleared & ready to go back I had to go back through orientation(Due to being gone longer than the 30 day limit). But hey I got the sign on bonus then!

A lot of companies do this. They wait till you show up for orientation to do your work history check. They do this to save money on the cost of back ground checks thru DAC. They also do this because a lot of drivers turn in applications and do not attend to come and work for them.

Its a good reason to look at what the company requires to be hired there, and make sure you have your #### together BEFORE you send the application.Ishouldnt take too much effort (and cash)to get a copy of your MVR from the local MV bureau, and go somewhere like hireright.com for a copy of your DAC. i've been to small and big companies, and i can tell you that unless you're going to some hole in the wall outlaw outfit, 90% of the companies out there WILL be doing a background check, some do the whole check before getting you that bus ticket to orientation, and some wait. Either way, if you have something in that record that the company sees as a disqulification to work there, you'll either get a "sorry but we cant hire you", or they will send you back home without a truck.
