My TMD 700 has failed. Simple thing really, but it speaks to the quality and reliability of the product. The 0000
ON/OFFbutton fell down into the unit. Since it is a one piece construction there is no way tO fix it.

Other than this, it has been a very reliable product. Please take a moment and tell me why I should shell out $400 on the new 720.

how do i go about getting a rand repaired?----and please dont ask me to contact rand,cause that works as good as the product

Tried backing up 700 and restoring data to 720 but didnt work also checked out poi factory but they don't seem to have them in the right format, any help in making my own poi's would be appreciated.

If you are computer savvy you can move the Navi/User/addressbook/addrbook.db file from the 700 and place it in the same folder on the 720.

You can Google for a converter to convert a .gpx to a .csv file.

Thanks for replying so quickly. I plan on returning the 710 back to the TA. I was thinking about purchasing the 720 but I wanted you opinion on the product. Are most of if not all to the bugs worked out of this product.Or is the 720 having the same problems as the 710.....and what is the red light flicker on the 720?

I have both Redlight and Speed camera files from the POI Factory that I am using- I had to go thru the TND Dock to load them into the proper slots in the device ( best I know to describe that). They can be loaded as general POI or Alert poi data but has to be done through the TND Dock software. It's a pretty straight forward process actually and I did not have to modify the format. I did not use the POI Factory button, I had already downloaded them to my laptop here. Used the TND dock to find 'em and install 'em. I am not all sure of this and Mark can amplify on this but I think the native csv format is fine.

Is it normal for the battery light to flutter when an alert-ithor POI or navigational- is made? It actually appears to blink red when the annoucement is going on in time to the voice. I noticed this last night.

Also, just a couple of suggestions that you may want to pass on the the " engies" at Rand:

1) Could it be possible to have an option to scale some of the screen elements (speed limit, current speed, next maneuver arrow, etc.) to various sizes, like a small-medium-large option?

2) Don't know if this can be done but add another option for the "quick power press" to toggle the wi-fi on/off.

3) I think that since this has wifi capability, an option to also see fuel prices at various truck stops would be all kinds of sweet!

I saw on a the trucking forum that you are a lead beta tester for RM. I purchased an RM710 six days ago. After bringing it home and plugging it in to the 110 charger over night I packed it up and headed on the road. during my trip from Boston to Michigan it work great. I made 5 pick ups and deliveries with out an issue. While making pick ups in MI, it locked up on me twice. I also noticed the plug was quite warm. I unplugged it until it cooled down. plugged it back in again and it would fire up and immediately lock. I called RM support and spoke to a repressive. They were ZERO help. He asked if i had my receipt, and it i could plug the unit into the computer and fax him the receipt. I explained i was in MI on my way to NY and NJ with 5 stops. he could have cared less. He said when i get my receipt and could prove the date of purchase I could call back. He said more then likely, I would have to send the unit back to RM, and they would send me a refurbished unit. I explained i needed a GPS for where i was going. He told me to go buy another unit. I told him I wanted to speak to a supervisor, after being on hold for 45 mins, he came back and told me no one was available. he took my number and said someone would call me. The next day a supervisor called me and stated he reviewed the phone call and the service tech. acted properly. I explained that the receipt and box was in Boston, and he could have cared less. It was the worst customer service experience in my life. I am very disappointed in not only the product but the representation, This product was build strictly for truckers yet there is no support in place for truckers. Thank you for listening to my rant, If you could please forward this to RM I would appreciate it.

Ya thanks Mark, did this this morning along with the history info. should have tried that before posting. Would like to turn some address book entries into poi's, can this be done that will show up on the map such as rest areas that haven't been added to the map data base yet.
