Pulled into Dakota City today and was out of there almost immediately.
    couldn't even get a nap.
But alas...14 ran out just east of Des Moines.
Make it to Ann Arbor tomorrow, but then have to wait up for paperwork to be faxed monday to the broker.
Made this same trip about three years ago. Really pretty and never hot.
Time before that, I actually went to Nova Scotia. Not much further to go unless you take the ferry to Newfoundland.
But they probably don't eat anything other than local mutton or fish over there.
    (did I say that?!)
Now the real question is what they'll do to get me back.
Last time, it was a deadhead all the way back to Quebec.

So I get this load from Wallys Muffins in Long Island going to NC for two drops. At WalMarts. I freaking hate WalMart multi drops. Something is always F'd up. ALWAYS.
Get loaded and do my break, roll for an hour and get a call begging me to do a repower. I reluctantly agreed, as this is also a two drop walmart but going to OK, so lots more miles. It also delivers same day, so more miles and less time. Fine, take it. Repower at the cesspit TA in Colubia NJ. Gads I hate that hole. Poor guy taking my load is now going all that way back the way I just came. Do some calculations and figure best times to roll and make the two deliveries same day when they are 190 miles apart and five hours between. UGH.
Get to first drop and mention I have to be in Pauls Valley in five hours. They get me out in less than two hours. I book it and get to Pauls Valley with half an hour before the appointment.
Well, lo and behold, they show the appointment as yesterday. They don't care my BOL says today, or my QC says today, they show it 24 hours late.
It's Sunday. No way it will get a new appointment until the CSAs come in Dallas tomorrow morning and sort through all the fuster clucks from the weekend. I very much doubt I will get an appointment tomorrow, probably Tuesday. So again, I'm out two days driving time and money. Two weeks ago the exact same thing happened on a WalMart two drop load. Last month, exact same thing on another two drop WalMart load.
I will refuse any more WalMart multi drop loads unless I get a QC agreement that I will receive either
    1) $75 for first 24 hour period and another $75 if I have to wait past first 24 hours for an appointment
    2) $50 immediately and detention pay each hour thereafter
if a schedule mess up like this happens again.
They can agree to this, or I will find things this truck and/or that trailer will need done to be safe for the road while I am under that load before I deliver.
If this results in Stevens and I parting ways, I can take my CSA 0 score and go somewhere else. I am not making any money when I have to sit for one or two and a half days to deliver a load every week, and I'm getting .31 cents a mile. I like Stevens, its equipment a lot, and I loved the training, but I have bills needing paid and this isn't going to do it.

I hate this is happening to you but a person can only get screwed around so much. Sounds like in the 5 months or so since I have been gone, Stevens is dishing out more and more BS.

Despite what a handful in here say, if it comes down to it, there are so many better opportunities out there.

Nascar..you're right. There are lots of other opportunities out there.
For whatever reason, some of us fall into a valley of grace with Stevens and do pretty good.
If you're not one of them, life can be miserable.
But it's like that with virtually all companies. The trick is to find one where you can fall into that groove and do well.
It's the nature of the beast.

I've been around this business for a long time. I've heard the same complaints from company after company.
Some guys do great at company A and most don't.
But then it's just the opposite at company B.
    Go figure!

An old friend who has been in the trucking game for over 25 years explained it this way... Truck Companies are like women. What you find attractive in one another will not... beuaty is in the eye of the beholder.

Makes perfect sense, I am considering my first year with Stevens like a long first date. I will reevaluate if I want a second or try a different one.

It helps to go into it with your eyes open, and be committed to completing your obligation. Too many 'drivers' go into it with a 'cut and run' attitude and don't fulfill their contract, then get mad because Stevens wants the money owed to them.

I think it has more to do with "taking the good with the bad", "rolling with the punches", "paying your dues", "establishing yourself", and actually spending enough time in one place taking the time to learn their system. Longevity has its rewards period, but many people don't think any of this is a necessity and the mind set it "give me what i want and do it now". Any job/company can be good or bad, i think it has more to do with a persons attitude and adaptability...... Or lack there of.

Speaking of staying in one place....
Picked up this load on Saturday in Dakota City.
Heading for New Brunswick, Nova Scotia.
    No Export papers.
"run with it to Detroit. We'll fax the papers to the broker and you'll be clear to go monday morning."
    Need I say more?
Still camped out at the T/A in Ann Arbor. Load is due 1300 miles away on thurs at 0600.
That ain't going to happen either.
This was a great load...2300 miles. Now it's turning into an albatross.

True... After working somewhere for one month shy of 20 years, I think that I am capable of what you have said in your post. And I thought that I would be that one last guy out of my class that made it a year, but I couldnt do it.

But some of us have bills to pay. I stuck it out as long as I could but had to find a job that actually pays the bills. And that seems to be a common complaint that I hear with Stevens.

If I could had paid my bills with Stevens, I would probably still be there.
