Well good Lord man! Surely he didn't only make it for the melons. It just so happens to be melon season. Next month starts Fiddler Crab season, the Wabbit season, then DUCK SEASON!
I now have a Vented Van trailer

Well yeah, the melon loads were the reason that I put forth the effort. Drill 12 holes to make $15-20K for the truck in a month's time? Yeah, I'd say that's a decent investment. And should I decide to seal them up again, I have aluminum flashing, sealer and sheet metal drill screws.

melon harvesting starts in April in Texas and South Florida....

No sense trying to justify to someone who thinks it's crazy. If you're chasing you need the flexibility those vents give you to get better paying loads from time to time. I think it was very little time and money well spent. Now seek out the better brokers and customers and you're set when produce is in.BigBadBill and windsmith Thank this.

Well, seems the melon loads aren't paying as good as some other freight that's out there right now, so I've headed in a different direction. $3.14 / mile including 90 d/h miles, Kernersville NC to just south of Newark, DE. Will keep an eye on melon rates as we get closer to the 4th, however.

IMO if it works who give a rats ##### what it cost, where it came from or how it looks as long as it serves the purpose and works. If that's what a person has to do to get good loads go for it.

Sorry if I started crap for you on this thread, I was just asking why you didn't go with the actual vents. All of my dry vans back in the day had vents as I ran nursery stock, then followed the melons up the coast. I just put two brand spanking new Bridgestones on the step if your buddy is still interested. TA wanted 700 a piece retail, I paid 600 a pair installed last year on my National account. I can't wait to see what they actually bill out at next settlement.

Don't be too sure hehehe...

No worries; it's good to have someone besides me stirring the pot from time to time. He's still hesitant to pull the trigger, I think mainly because the van rates are still fairly decent.SHC Thanks this.
