Well, my wife works for an auto shipper and had a particular order she wanted some advice on.
They had a shipment that needed to be delivered in 2 days and asked me if it was possible to do. After I calculated everything, I determined it would take a minimum of 76 hours to legally move this shipment with a solo driver. I told her it was possible to do it in 2 days if you ran illegal or ran team. So my wife informs the girl in charge of this shipment and the girl that is responsible for dispatching the O/O's tells my wife later that the O/O said I have no clue of what I was talking about and he'll get it there on time.
Well, apparently this O/O they contracted out to told them he could have there in 2 days. First, he had more than 4 days to make the delivery but decided to hang out at the terminal for 2 days after he was already loaded. Why, I have no clue.
So the day it was supposed to be delivered, the O/O contacts them and tells them he is still enroute. This was Monday. Tuesday, a day late for delivery, he calls them to inform them that he has been put out of service for 10 hours and has a $1000 ticket for violating his logs.
Well, he pretty much loss any profit on this run and the girl told my wife that they are going to decide whether or not to keep him on, which she said will probably not happen. Not because he violated his logs, but because he had the opportunity to get the load there on time and this particular order was classified as a "no-fail" delivery, meaning that if it didn't get there on time they lose this particular contract.

this term "super trucker", i hear it a lot, is it just pure sarcasm?
my father was a trucker as were my uncles, i think of them as super truckers, and not in any negative sense
they would get a load, and drive thru some of the worst weather to get their loads there on time, without excuses
this is what i call a super trucker -
There is a large difference in knowing when to "lay-down" or to keep trucking in 'some of the worst weather' to get the load there on-time. In my opinion, a Super-trucker is one who KNOWS his limitations and will not put persons or property at risk for the sake of making that delivery, and will will stand up for himself when others don't agree with his decisions.

The term is slowly starting to mean a bad trucker. Typically refers to the driver with an "invincible" attitude and practices. The "log foggers", "scale dodgers", "mega-watt cb'ers", etc.
Kinda like "good buddy" refers to those of the homosexual persuasion. At one time it was a good term, but slowly evolved into it's present day meaning. -
funny how hard work gets you a degrading name
i wonder what other industry is subject to ridicule from their own constituents -
Raafi I think your missing the point, this guy didn't get a degrading name for working hard,he got it for being stupid. The guy lost an account for his company and got a $1,000.00 fine all unnecessarily

i understand the post, bill
its this term supertrucker where we are attacking people who work hard is whats bugging me
but i look at life thru different glasses, so dont pay me no mind, thanks for the clarification though
i was listening to the cb and guys were mocking "professional drivers" i guess its similar to this "super trucker" thing
i think all of us should work hard, not necessarily like animals, but put in a good days work for a good days pay, and then some
unfortunately, i am new to this, and i am seeing that truckers are their own worse enemy, they fight and bicker over the dumbest things
i was driving by a truckstop last night, and listening to the juvenile conversation is depressing
why? because i cant think of another industry that communicates with each other to the vast number of people that truckers do
in the course of a day, i can probably speak to a thousand truckers if not more, we have a CB radio which could be used for a tool for a lot of good
what do we talk about? aside from the really important stuff like bear reports and weather and traffic?
commercial company, some man not wearing panties, and a host of other things, one guy must have burped into the radio every ten seconds for about a half hour, and he had a big radio
i love my job, i really love driving and driving a big truck, to be honest i am having more fun than work, but i also see that we are wasting a valuable opportunity amongst ourselves because of immaturity
and this whole super trucker/professional trucker thing just kinda set me off
i apologize for the rant -
Kind of like the word "hero". It use to mean something. Nowadays everyone is referred to as a hero just for doing their basic job. I'm still in the military and I'm so sick of how we overuse the word. It means nothing to me anymore even though I've routinely been called it just for doing what I get paid to do. I feel you need to go way beyond the expected in order to earn that title.
I've actually seen where a dog was referred to as a hero because it stayed next to its owner's dead body. WTF??jlkklj777 Thanks this. -
Super Trucker:
One who pickes up and delivers his/her load on time. Respects others as he/she would like to be respected. Dresses in a way that brings respect to him/herself. Does not hang around in truck stops playing silly video games (when he/she has a load to deliver) complaining about miles, pay or what ever.
Super (Stupid) Trucker.
Constantly is late to pick up and deliver and always blames someone else. Looks like a slob. Truck looks like is belongs in the junk yard. Is always complaining about miles, pay or what ever.simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
Raafi I'm just a guy who does his job I don't worry about titles or what is said on the cb, if someone wants to make fun of someone else for being professional in his job,I just consider the source.Listening to the cb can warp your views of the industry you only hear the loudest and dumbest.I keep mine off most of the time, but I agree with you it would be nice if civillians could listen to it with their families without being disgusted. That would certainly help our image.
