Just to be clear, the newer USX trucks have idling disabled unless the temp is below 29 degrees or above 70 degrees. It cannot be overridden with the standard idle rules such as cruise. From 29 to 70 degrees, the truck wil shut off after 5 minutes

A lot of companies have that oh so wonderful set up now<sarcasm />.

I'd like to say thanks NoCoCraig, I've been reading your blog and it's been great. My wife is in training and over the past year I've been working on dropping a lot of weight(I'm right at the 100lbs lost mark right now) to get healthy enough to drive again. The more I read of your blog the further up USxpress moves on our list of companies we want to work for. Have a great day you two.

Is that 70 degrees inside the sleeper or outside?

29 outside but you have bunk heaters right?

That's outside, usually runs off a censor located somewhere near the lower front part of the engine compartment.

WE have a 12 Freightliner and it idles just fine. As I said elsewhere, call breakdown to get the correct procedure on how to make your truck idle, within the temp rules of course.

Yes, we have a bunk heater.
On the Freightliners, if above 70 degrees outside, you need to idle and wait 5 minutes until the yellow engine warning light starts to flash, you then just depress the clutch one time, it will idle all day.
On the low end, just setting the cruise control works.

I don't think anyone has complained that their truck doesn't idle correctly. Some just don't like those temp rules.

Does this idling thing affect lease purchase drivers too?
