If you're smart you will be micro-managing your own idle time. Fuel is a big expense. It can make you or break you as a lease op.

Dennis_Miller Thanks this.

No doubt vin. I agree totally. Just dont want to be under someone else's thumb any more than I have to be.
Are you a lease op?

I emailed them about pet policy. The reply was $500 deposit and less than 20lbs, dogs only.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I got this in an email from a USX recruiter today.

"...Some have APU's and some don't. If they do not we will install and inverter for you free of charge. As for idling, they don't want you to idle if you are on one of our when the temperature is between 50 and 80. Now if you have a pet on board or are sleeping, there is no idle policy. So its not something they are going to beat you over the head with."

They tried some out but the likelihood of you getting one is nil.

That was poorly worded. The installation is free. You have to provide the inverter.

The only "no idle" policy I have seen in writing is no idling when at one of their terminals (the word "terminals" is missing up there) unless you have a pet or are sleeping. Even so I have never had anyone tell me to shut it off. I usually hang out in the terminal if it has a decent TV room anyway.

It's true that they do not beat you over the head with it.

Some of the trucks are set to not idle at certain temps, mine isn't set like that.

Every terminal I go to every truck is idling lol. If I'm not in my truck I shut it down obviously but the second I get back in I crank it up. These things are like saunas if your out in the open sun! I can't wait for some cooler weather and can open the windows and have some nice fresh air blowing through the cab!
