I have a question, I seem to recall a discussion in the aviary about Stevens getting away from the Super Singles, although I did still see a few trucks with them at the yard.
As I recall they were dropped because of wear problems dje to improper wheels... is that correct?

Obviously that should have been SUPER SINGLES

Yes, Stevens got away from them.
the probelms were varied. Wear was one, but cost of repair on the road was a major factor. When a SS blows, it will usually take the wheel with it. It's not uncommon for additional damage to pieces like drums, as well.
In addition, most tire shops charge a premium for the tires, so cost was a factor.
SS are more subject to problems due to inflation issues. We don't have to go down that avenue, now do we!
What you see on the yard are 2011 trucks. Those will start disappearing next year. -
The only reason I don't like super singles is because when you have a flat you are done.
