hpi is not their best creation ,to many valves,o rings ,dampers ,to hot fuel return lines (good in the winter bad in summer) also the system is proone for sucking air . bosch unit injectors used on dsc 13scr and 16 are more simple and reliable

Sorry didn't read your whole post, we run all 14's and 16's, 14's I know are no longer made so I haven't had the problems of the other engines

Anyway, mid range scanias are nothing spectacular ! I'd buy a volvo first and if I was to buy a fleet af new trucks they would be Volvo , if I'm to buy a truck as an o/o to last me 15 years and I want absolute comfort and power and a truck that has value at the end of that time and won't let me down it's gonna be a Scania v8!

I don't know much about the new DetDiesel, but for the cummins side, well, new cummins eng uses the common rail fuel delivery system developed by Scania, not vice versa. Even the older ISX had the fuel delivery timing and metering actuators imported from Sweden. I know, I have the cummins signature 600/ISX and the actuators have Scania inscription on them.
The new high pressure common rail technology was first developed in Euro. Versions of it are an American idea but never developed here into this high pressure common rail. I guess that the highly tempered materials used and the very small tolerancess required are a little more then what the manufacturers here ca chew. I guess that they smartened up in that regard and left that to the professionals.
They consider here a 1"/1000(10ths of mm) very small tolerance for machining steel, and 1/100 or 1/1000 mm (microne) is unheard of in other applications other then NASA .......maybe........or not even there.Last edited: Jun 29, 2012

I transported a mettal stamping die manufactured for the Mercedes Benz plant in Alabama. The machine shop where I picked up this thing was working on it for 8 months after it was refused by MB for the 3rd time. The shop people was complaining that " MB is too fussy, too darn pretentious". And that all the similar work that they do for the big 3 (GM, Ford, Chrisler) was accepted usually on the first try.
