Don't let all these trucking company apologists get to you. The facts are that the trucking business is a cut throat industry. They only care about their bottom line. Most of them are hiring cheap foreign labor that is willing to work for next to nothing.

What a sorry joke this industry has become.

Sorry part is the WHINERS who give it a 1/2 azzed try then whine when it does not workout for them. Oh gee they likely failed at everything they ever tried so lets try trtucking , looks easy and $1,000.00 / week. Then its I got FIRED for messing up but its everyones fault at Company XYZ .

I am a current May driver and have encountered some of the same issues as jedi_tev described. I am dispatched out of Brooks and am lucky to get 2k miles per week. I was made a trainer in March and have had 1 student ( he went solo March 26), since then I have NOT been given another student, only excuses. The 1st of the year is when I first noticed things changing. Since the beginning of the year I have NEVER gotten home on time, it's always a day or more late, once it was a full week late. jedi_tev has several valid points in his post. I also give him credit for admitting his mistakes, and if you read his post he says he accepts responsibility for his incidents, and says that they are not part of hos gripes w/ May.

At 1 year exp. you shouldn't be training a driver. I don't know why people with less than 5 years think they can train someone.

Before driving OTR, I drove locally for 12 years.

May's view of a "trainer" is not one who "trains" a driver how to drive, rather, someone who ensures the student is familiar with the HOS, proficient in understanding the companies policies & procedures, use of the EOBR, etc.

Driving proficiency and experience comes with repetition.

I know that grinds against the more experienced drivers out there in the trucking world. However, that's just the way it is.

Accidents happen. All you can do is learn from them and be happy nobody got hurt, then you move on. I honestly expect a driver with only 2 years to mess up. But I expect that driver to learn from his mistakes and not do it again. My first trip well over 20 years ago, I forgot how long the trailer was and knocked another trailer right off it's landing gear, while pulling out of a dock. Soon after pulling out I turned left, but my trailer didn't clear. What can I say? I was a rookie. I never got fired for that, but I learned real fast.
Now go and get another driving job and move on.

Seriously? This statement has in no way, shape, or form anything to do with trucking. Your entitled to "believe" what you want but please dont pawn it off on others.

    Thank you.
