The Caps may be dried out. Because 23 channel radios are about 35+ yrs old (40 channels came out in 1977).

I wouldn't put any money into it to make it work. Too many good used late model radios out there to choose from to go with that relic.

 

Thats a old cybernet ( hygain ) radio I tossed many into the trash .....You can buy a midland for $35 with 40 ch...

They convert nicely to 10 meter AM but no one uses AM on 10 meters anymore ..... thats why I tossed the ones I had .....

 

Wow, an old Hygain. An old high-school buddy of mine had one of those. Back in the day they seemed to be a decent radio. I never used one, instead I used an old Johnson Messenger 123a. Vintage, antique, and unless you're just wanting to sink money into restoration, it's deserving a decent burial..

 

Sometimes the old radios just need a little cleaning and do well. That hygain was no slouch in it's day.

 

I tend to disagree with that, just about every time 10M is open I hear activity in the AM sub-band.

 

If that one doesn't work, you can buy the new in box radios like those (but with 40 channels) for less than $50 including shipping, from ebay, or WalMart. (Cobra 19 is about $40 new). You can have a decent rig -radio, coax, antenna, and mount for under $100.

 

IF it is the 3 crystal PLL you change the mixing crystal to go on 10 meters ... Crystals run about $25 now you have a 4 watt radio on 29 mhz .... You must have a general class license to use it ....
