Amaising the job that MB did with the new Actros. I ca see in that video where they perform an obsticle avoidance test swerving oround it and you can see the cab suspension working in a vertical motion but no side to side movement and no cab sway whatsoever. Impressive! Really nice!Scania man Thanks this.

One thing about the Germans......they really get down and "werke" on something till " das ist gut, ja"......some of the best stuff mankind ever built comes from there.
-
Yes but they kept the suspension almost underneath the high riding cab!! Laws of physics will tell you why they rolled!

You know I'm really anxious to get a drive of one of theses new actros , I think they will be spectacular! They certainly look amazing! I hope it doesnt end up a two way race in Europe, it would be bad for competition! I'd be really interested to hear from anyone who's drove the new merc!!

When did Scania R series get better cab suspension? I drove 2007 R500 and it was as crappy as my 4 series. Bushings finished, jumping up and down, banging and squeling etc. My next truck will have 2 point cab suspension. 2 suspensions on top of each other just can not work. Then you ad 3rd, the seat, I always dump the air out of the seat.
-
Rubbish!! Look under the grille and the evidence is quiete visual! 2 point has died out in the early 90's for a reason, honestly how often do you change cab bushings? Do u really want to go back to the jarring effects of 2 point cab suspension? I still own a 142 from the 80's, nice truck but if I was asked to drive one of these today I'd be quiet upset! Why would you go nearly 25years back in time and expect better ride qualities? C'mon get real! If you don't want cab bushing problems spec your truck with front axle air sus, no problems!!
-
Maybe redesigned articulation components, heavier and better design and materials for the bushings would result in reduced failure occurrence. Why go back and give up on an idea that has the potential of greatly improving the ride experience?
It's like going from flying in an airliner from NY City to LA back to taking the Stagecoach across the country........
4 point cab suspensions are not available here yet, and as I'm getting older, I'm really getting tired of the aggressive vibrations and loud bangs everytime I drive on roads with transversal cracks and rough transitions between road surface and bridge surface. I would like the smoothest and quietest rides possible even if it means a few more $$$ in maintenance. I'm sure that this things are acheaveble without sacrificing feedback and control.Last edited: Jul 1, 2012

142 2 point suspension was quite good, T cab 3 series no suspension at all even better. It's the axles suspension that must work. US trucks don't have no suspension to talk of so no comparison can be made. How uncomfortable are coaches? They don't have any cab suspension. Front axle air suspension is harder than good parabolic suspension because bags can't be made big enough to be comfortable and link bars are flexing to every direction.
That R500 had 450k on the clock and the bushings were already done. Same about every Scania I know of. Our roads are bad, our eastern neighbours even worse, maybe our trucks need different specs?
