I believe one of the unintended consequences of EOBR's will be fines that are out of control. Quite possibly putting a small operator out of business and the mega's will feel the hit as well. Feel free to point out the flaws in my thinking as well.

Upon full implementation of EOBR's to track HOS nobody will be running "cowboy" thus the revenue from those tickets will be gone. What will the states then do to recoup this loss? Anyone that may doubt that the fines will increase that much just needs to look at the fines they created for texting. $2750 to the driver AND $11,000 to the company. A lot harder to write a texting fine than it is to write one for bad brakes.

    Thoughts?

Ukumfe, they (being the politicians) cannot lose.
If there are less fines with EOBR's then they can say that their new laws worked.
If the number off fines remains the same or increases, they will say that the trucking industry is lacking in respect for the law and needs to be controlled more thus proving the need for EOBR's.

The point being that we saw this kind off change in Europe.
From what i have seen over the last 25 y will not stop the change.

At best you will lessen the impact.

    Agreed, precisely because of....

I sure don't like Obama and his ilks, and I'd take lesser of two evils (Romney, GWB, etc) any day. But that's not to say most Republicans aren't self-serving crooks just like Dems are. It is painfully apparent if you actually go to the link I posted and browse through all amendments. Most of Rep. Broun's proposals to cut funding for bureaucracies, many of which makes you say "why in the heck are we even funding these things?", got shot down by significant margin, in the House controlled by the Republican party.

I wish I can watch his show everyday.

I really don't like voting for the lesser of two evils when it comes to voting for those to represent me and my interests. Unfortunately, that is the way things seem to be these days. It is the media that put Obama in place and it has been the media that put Romney in the position of being the likely republican candidate to oppose Obama. Those who want to cut the size of government and cut taxes, such as Ron Paul, were essentially cut out of the free media blitz that was given to Romney and Obama.

Perhaps I expect too much from politicians. I really don't think that the issues that will get this country turned around are very complicated. It is the will to follow the constitution and do the right thing, just because it is right. Not because it is the most expedient or politically correct thing to do, but because it is right. We have gotten away from our moral compass. Things ran much smoother when GOD was the center of our lives and our country. I have seen over the years that the more GOD is taken out of our country and lives the worse our country becomes.

The 28th amendment would make it a crime to accept money from a company or individual for favor in congress.

Congress does not like the sound of this, imagine that.

Money in politics is like water, it will always find a way to flow. It doesn't matter if it was the McCain/Feingold Campaign Reform Bill (which caused the emergence of all those super pacs) or a 28th(?) amendment. Money will make its way in some form. Always has, always will. Congress may not like the sound of it, but only because they will have to be more creative on how they do things.

The fines won't drop that much . Drivers with EOBR's have to carry instructions for law enforcement on how to access the data and the drivers need to know how to show the hours for the past 7 days . Drivers are already being nailed because they can't comply .
EOBR's also malfunction frequently and drivers don't have proper paper log backup .

I know there are a few different systems, but with Qcomm that is as easy as pushing a single tab button on the main screen. So simple.
