Ok so I'm parked next to a guy at a Walmart DC trying to get a little sleep while they unload me. And I here his air dryer going off a lot so I timed it. I'll post the results. Is there anything wrong with it? Mine doesn't go off that much. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1341355046.315143.jpg

The air dryer needs a rebuild kit, that will stop it, unless of course there is a massive air leak.

The question is what happens if you don't fix it.

Air compressor might be bad leaking air back out the intake. Could not hear the air leak with engine running and truck would not leak air when shut off. When truck was running air gauge would yo yo from 90 to 120lbs and air dryer would go off and start all over again . But anyway something is wrong with that truck.

The air dryer has a check valve in the bottom of the assembly, the check valve pretty much consists of a round plastic ball about the size of a golf ball, in the course of time the ball wears a little bit, and instead of completely shutting the air off after the discharge that you hear each time the air compressor cycles, the ball will only partially shut the air off, leak down and trigger the air governor to kick on, well the air pressure in the tanks hasn't leaked down, only the air pressure where the air dryer is concerned, so it only takes ten or twenty seconds to bring the air lines back up to pressure and the air governor kicks off, sending another dicharge. The air governor could be bad, but I doubt it, a good mechanic can have this simple kit replaced in less than an hour, it goes right in the bottom of the air dryer and if I remember correctly it is the small kit, not the complete kit with the filter.

I was having a similar problem with my DD15. It's actually a bendix compressor and the part is available from several places. Ours came in a cat bag.

turned out it was the "sputter valve" (pop-off) on the compressor. Thing sounded like a horse sputtering all the time going down the road.

Some guy gets pi##ed because he can't sleep and takes a hammer to it, THEN it will have to be repaired.

Quite right MNdriver, anything that causes a loss of air pressure between the compressor and the dryer will cause the governor to keep kicking in and out, and each time it kicks out it will discharge the moisture from the dryer.
