Sorry for the delay I retired the 05 with 673,000 last March and now running a 2012 with 40,000 on it started with 23 miles on the gage. I'm taking about three months maybe more off for a health issue

These motors required more gauges then they came with. Now we know what to monitor and a simple Scangauge II does the job by providing 24 digital gauges 4 at a time. The oil cooler is the main demon and not that hard to replace when and if it gets clogged up with casting sand. It feeds coolant directly to the E.G.R. COOLER which will blow it out if the oil cooler clogs up and starves it of coolant which is how the heads get lifted and possibly cracked. Monitoring the oil temp and coolant temp eliminates this cascade of events by letting you know when to replace the oil cooler and while your in there the E.G.R. cooler for peace of mind. When the oil temp gets 15 degrees above the coolant temp pretty constantly its time to replace the coolers then it does not have time to blow out and lift your heads. Also monitor F.I.C.M. MAIN POWER which should stay between 47.5 - 48.5 volts. Anything below that will burn up your injectors. You now have a choice of replacing the F.I.C.M. for about $400 or having it repaired for about $200. Getting the latest computer reflash will eliminate the turbo sticking problem by allowing the vanes to sweep wide open when you are idling. The bugs took some time to figure out in the real world. You have to remember that all this EMISSION CONTROL CRAP WAS MANDATED BY THE E.P.A. NAZIS and that all diesel engines don't take kindly to exhaust being puked back into the motor !!!! The 6.0 is a wonderful machine and the easiest [V8] to work on. There are quite a few out there with 500,000 plus miles without a problem one I saw with 1,200,000 on it. I have noticed the ones with the most problems are the guys who want to go beyond what is stock even down to eliminating the E.G.R. COOLER.

I had a 92 12 valve in my old Dodge with the banks system, used to have chevy and ford owners talk trash but only three ever chained up and went for a pull. Funny how they just got dragged around by my Dodge.

I ran big trucks for 30 years and now you can't even give me one. Just because I didn't leave another big truck driver in a mud hole I get all this crap,, When you get 3.5 million miles then you can have your say.

6.0 really? That was the worst diesel motor ever besides the 6.5 chevy!! 7.3 powerstoke was far superior to the 6.0 I have family that run Ford dealerships that 6.0 was garbage my old boss had one had nothing but problems with it traded it in after 1.5 years taking a huge loss best diesel p/u was a 5.9 cummins followed by the 7.3 powerstroke although I'm pretty impressed by the new duramax but its still a Chevy
