Thers still to many out there that will not give up there older trucks period. The last time i checked we where a free market country and the day someone tells me what kind of truck i have to buy is the day the ##### hits the fan. Sure most will bend over and do what there told but theres to many that will not me included. The funny thing is and its proven a diesel motor running free and non restrictive is just as good or better on emmisions than one with all the emmission bs on it. I love watching all the trucks with the dpfs running down the road smoking like there on fire, thats much better for the enviroment than an older truck.

EXACTLY!! So many people believe that if you put emissions bs on a car/truck/suv that it will be better for the environment, which is definitely not the case. I'm 17, and plan on getting my CDL at 18 if I can find a local job until I'm 21. Then get some OTR experience with flatbeds, lowboys, stretch, etc. then get my own truck and authority. And i will not give up a 379 or a w900 no matter what!! If it's my truck, and I'm paying for it, and the gas, and everything else, you are not gonna tell me if I am allowed to drive it or not.

For me the only cure to hood fever would be a good looking truck regardless of the make....except Volvo....would be any of the following:
Mack pinnacle rawhide edition
International lonestar
Pete 587/387 or 386.
Kenworth t660 or t800
Freightliner Coronado.
Just personal choices.
I really want one of three trucks though.
Pete 389
International 9900ix
Kw w900L

I will quit driving before I ever climb in a 65mph fleet spec aero truck...
poppapump1332, camaro68, fisher guy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Slowest truck I ever drive was 1977 Mack 300 5 speed and even it would do 68 mph empty how embarrassing would it be to get passed by that funny thing is it would be one of the faster trucks on the road

I originally drove a freightlliner cabover. Llike many did. big cam cumin/350hp. next one was a short hood freightliner conventional. Both got 5 mpg. Same as the 425 cat that the one o/o had. My first owned truck was a 1993 379 long hood with a 425 peec/15 speed/3:55. Got consistantly average 6 mpg. My current one is a 1996 379 long hood, 475 cat/ 13 speed/ 3:55. it averages 6-7 mpg. I think with the turbo repacement it'll average closer to the 7 mpg again. It pulls much better now and overall, I'm using much less throttle.
About the new ones? I've yet to see one that'll pull a hill [think CA and out west} as well as this does.
Both these Petes had the 70" Able body sleeper that was offered a few years. It's tall and sends air around the front of the trailer. That my friends is where the majority of the fuel mileage for Petes dissappear. As it will with any flattop/ midroof pulling a box trailer.
Sorry, don't care for anything that works best using the cruise control.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
If I went with a coronado, I would have a detroit in it, probably from fitz.
