Keep thinking that and tell us how it works out when you try to explain that to a trooper, on the side of the road.

I consistently run 3 to 5 over on the interstate, haven't been stopped in years. Colorado will give 5 to 7 over in rural areas, I-70/I76 N or E of Denver. Kansas can be generous if your careful. Wyoming will usually give 3 over, same with Utah. Used to run 82/75 in New Mexico all the time without a hassle.

If your going to run one do not buy a cheep dector. I would go with a BEL. Never trust anything, use it to keep you alert. There is no absolute about how fast over you can go, it totally depends on the officers mood that day. More than the speed limit not snivel, just pay the fine and learn from it. Police do not have the right to destroy personal property.

sums up what i was saying.good detectors, whether illegal or not, keep you alert and will advise of of things that no cb running or answering drivers will.sure I stretch it out from time to time, traffic permitting, but generally all i do is just get the heck away from the cluster trucks and average 5-8 over.

I am so full of shheeet. I love the left lane.period.but the above is fairly accurate.perhaps i just spend lots of time left laning passing the cluster truckers, avoiding that dangerous wad of drivers all bunched up jockeying for position side by side-

A couple of your posts have talked about using the radar detector to "protect" yourself. I am trying to understand what you mean.

You indicate that you are driving at or below the posted limit.

It sounds like you mean you want to "protect" yourself from an overzealous/ corrupt LEO who will write you up for something you didn't do. While I'm sure those sort of LEO's exist in the real world, how does having the detector "protect" you from that sort of behavior?

I'm not slamming you, but please elaborate on how you are "protected" if you drive within the legal limits as you describe?

i do not see the need for one. by the time your detector "detects" radar or laser..??

    you've been clocked.

    done deal.

i simply do not believe the claims of the manufacturers. they are after all trying to sell something, so of course they are going to say they are the best over another company or even the companies that manufacture the radar guns for the police.

i'd much rather spend my money on my mortgage, car payments, and other finer things in life.

I'm not so sure they really exist in the "real world" either.
I've had a few (not TOO many) brushes with Cops and 99% of them went smooth and the Cop wasn't a jerk or anything that he SHOULDN'T be.

When I'm talking to LEO I try to speak with confidence, respect, and NO fear. I treat them like I want to be treated but don't lick their boots.

Same thing with dealing with Judges. Back in my young young days I wrote a couple of bad checks and had to go to court on a couple of them.

I NEVER had a problem with the Judge. He never spoke to me like a jerk. Even when I was young (like, 19) I carried myself the same way. Straight, Honorable but respectful, but at the same time, serious as in all business. Not a hoodlum. Others I saw didn't fare so well. I recall one time particularly a female got mouthy with the same Judge (BEFORE I went up lol) and he threw the book at her.

I remember thinking... GREAT she done went and got him pizzd off and now I'm gonna have a heck of a time with him. But, again, I was just "myself" and he was totally different towards me.

Hey, you guys heard that song that says "I fought the Law and the Law won"? :)

Unless it is directly (or semi directly) robbing you of your constitutional rights I say... obey the law.
