That's why I have my minimum charge of $350 and I give them two hours on each end after that I get $75 a hour but you will never get a broker to pay this that's why I never do short hauls from brokers

My cost plus pay @ $.45 a mile is $1.50 a mile and that's only keeping $.20 cents a mile for maintenance fuel here is $3.64 a gal so I'm still at $.60 cents a mile in fuel $.15cents a mile is replacement cost and $.10 cents is insurance and tags and all this is if I run a 100,000 miles that year less miles the more it cost me more miles my fixed cost goes down but not by much

I have a lot of people say my .20 cents a mile is too much but I have already spent $24,000 on repairs this year so I'm into my replacement cost already
I don't do this just to make normal truck driver wages and at $1.50 a mile that's all I make and I'm just not going to do it

Out of Oregon and Washington, there are PLENTY of 48klbs loads being offered at $0.95. I can not take such a load. Either the brokers are fishing for fools to haul their crap at $0.95 per mile or they get their crap hauled at that rate and it is just what it is. I cannot figure this out and I cannot haul at this rate. I'll rather bounce 300 miles than take one of these loads. I suppose I am priced out of that market. But I do think cooler heads prevail, I have never committed under $1.25 in the past year, my average is $1.seventysomething for the past 12 months. But yes, things are pretty freakin' slow right now. Scary.

That is strange, I have some friends that are still in the owner/op buisness that are doing well running the midwest, southeast. So well that, I consider getting back into it at times.

Then I pinch myself and say NOT!!!!

Different markets I guess. .95 cents, that is unreal.

I am like you, wonder if there are actually people who will haul lumber for .95 cents. And tarp it Too!!! :biggrin_25520:

I won't haul tarped lumber at all, and .95 cent load can go suck a duck.

Swift has dozens of flats in NORCAL and OR. Why is lumber .95 a mile? The same reason dry vans are .90 out of Phoenix.

aiwiron, SHC and whoopNride Thank this.
