Doesn't the Smith System teach drivers to use the middle lane to get the most 'outs' ?

I figured it was because some drivers think they will tip over if they go into the right lane. Plus, half the time a slow truck is running in the center lane, when you pass, the driver usually has a cell phone stuck in their ear....

Yes it is, was wondering when someone was going to point that out. Guess not many others have learned the Smith System. :D

  8. The shoulder is also an out, as far as the Smith System goes. However, there are cases when a semi-truck can run in the middle lane without holding up traffic, even the hammer lane. Granted it usually requires exceeding the speed limit, but if traffic in that lane is moving that fast and your truck can handle it, you should not be restricted to the slow lane where you will lose momentum and hold things up. Now I'm no speed demon, usually maintaining a 60-62mph range, but when the slow lane is choosing to abide by the 55mph limit and I want to go with the flow of traffic in the middle lane, because I've gone through that town many times over the last 18 years and never been bothered for 5 over, I should be able to do so, as long as i am willing to get over if I do get slowed down.

I always saw it as in my eyes my safety was more important to me then anyone elses, and this should apply to everyones thinking. If it gives you more outs and keeps you running smoothly, run in whatever lane you want. This only ever applies in congested areas etc. And I have seen far more cars not staying right when going slow, then trucks

no, squid if you read what they are saying with comprehension, they have told you why not for us but for the safety of all a lot of truck drive in the center lane. If more people (4-wheelers) knew the dangers they impose, with trying to beat the truck, talegating, texting, along with you aren't the only one on the side of that truck what about the one on the other side of that truck that can't see you, both of you are thinking the same thing get in front of that truck. And, thanks to the tv lawyers advertising that focus on cashing in on the big trucks more people drive as though the want to be hit by us pr dare us. I know I do everything I can to keep myself and everyone else safe, but, we can't be the only ones concern about safety, (4-wheelers) have to stop acting like mindless idiots and do there part and everyone is in such a hurry and selfish only you have somewhere to be. try paying attention to the real crazy driving that goes on by other (4-wheelers) n tell us it's all about us. The American Trucker we get no respect. Thanks Squid
